Now, I've tried to stick up for Hasbro in the past. I was thankful for the new Joe line, and felt that the majority of the figures were decent to excellent representatives of the figures I enjoyed so much as kid and throughout my teen years. Sure, there were a lot of repaints, and maybe we gotten all of the figures we feel that they should be concentrating on (instead of figures that weren't Joes, like Specialist Trakker), but given the vast number of figures we have gotten in slightly less than a year and a half, we've done pretty good as collectors. When we were kids, we got one wave a year, and once those were gone, they were gone.
But I received the Ghost H.A.W.K. with Lift Ticket from HTS in the mail today. Yesterday I got Blowtorch in the mail via a trade with Thal J. I noticed a strange resemblance in their stupid, mawkish visages. Blowtorch's face is okay - a bit too happy for my taste, but he gets to burn the living shit out of Cobra and gets paid to do it, so I understand. But Lift Ticket... looks as if somebody gave Richard Nixon botox. There's no hiding that these two heads are virtually the same; Lift Ticket's hair is parted down the middle, and his ears and chin are more elongated, but the effect of the modifications done have made him into a hideous rube. Reading his file card, I can't accept that this face belongs to the person being described there. The rest of Lift Ticket is good, altered parts making him look like an altogether new figure, despite half of the parts being used are pre-existant. But if they had to use that god awful Pyle-ish face, it would have served better on a Cross Country figure.
For crissakes, Hasbro, at least do us the honor of making individual, discriminate head sculpts. We demand new head sculpts for Grand Slam and Flash (who are not the same person), Leatherneck and Cutter (who are not Gung Ho), Ace, the Crimson Twins, Spirit, Short Fuze, Grunt, greenshirt Hawk (who should just have the wave 9 Hawk head), Falcon, Serpentor, Major Bludd, and an all new Tele-Viper figure, that includes all of his proper gear. And enough with the box sets of nothing but repaints - throw something new for us in there, aside from color. And while you're at it, fixed Duke forearms (with various colors to match the figures that need these replaced) should be made available for all of us loyal Joe fans, as well as straight Viper forearms.
Not a lot to ask for, in exchange for our hard-earned cash. Make these reparations, and you can continue to repaint bodies until Judgement Day.
I know... they're just toys. But if something's worth doing, then it's worth doing right. Hunter S. Thompson said that, and by gum, he was on to something.

In their defense I think they were trying to recreate the original figure, which also had that dopey look. Not that the original was any better and certainly not an excuse. I hate his head too. But I guess they were just trying to make things look as close to the original as possible even if it wasn't a great idea. Same with the Spirit head.

This is also a pet peeve of mine. It doesn't bother me with generic army builders, but I think the unique characters should have unique heads.
The Modern Cutter and Desert Leatherneck just don't look right to me. All I see is Gung-Ho. And the TRU Joe Greenshirt set-demoted Joes with dyed hair.
