These would be some great options for internet only 7 packs if they were to produce new ones this year. The days of nothing but ME versions of classic figures is gone and I say good riddance. I like that stuff, don't get me wrong; but the main retail line needs to focus on current themes, not nostalgia. There are routes such as the club, FSS, and internet only items to satisfy the collectors that refuse to get past the classic 80's tributes and think that anything modern is crap. Personally, I thought POC was the best Joe line ever. At it's core, GI Joe is a toyline and it must, first and foremost have some appeal to children in order to survive. Yes, Hasbro has made it's share of what many of us consider blunders...loss of stands and articulation, rising prices, distribution issues, fewer accessories, no file cards. But they are not killing the brand, they are trying to evolve it into something successful. The people killing the brand are the so called fans who bitch and complain about anything that is not a rehash of the past. The people killing the brand are the ones who say I'm not gonna buy any of this new stuff, or I'll wait until it goes on clearance. Not everything is going to be for everyone, but it is the "fans" who refuse to allow the brand to evolve that are the real issue. There is so much Joe related happening over the next few months, that is why I started this thread, to celebrate and enjoy the new. It saddens me to see so much bitching and complaining and nay-saying going on instead. I really have to wonder, if some people cannot find anything upcoming to be interested in, why not just walk away from the GI Joe brand then? If you cannot find anything to enjoy in something, then let it go, and walk away. Is it really necessary to try to kill the fun and enthusiasm for that some of us do have?
Two, I can't agree that the fans bitching is what is killing the line. Because you can take the flip side of that and say that when the fans were buying all the 25th and 30th figures then the line was successful. If the fans can't make the line successful the fans can't make the line unsuccessful either. |

Now, I obviously don't want Retaliation to fail, but am just not supporting it with my money. If Hasbro returns to PoC quality figures, than I'm interested. Secondly, some collectors, including myself, wonder if figures aimed at kids will succeed. Sounds strange, but we all know childhood is shorter than ever now and by the time kids are 8 years old, they are playing video games, ipods, etc. So, is there really a market there? I don't know. I am pretty sure collectors have demonstrated a willingness to support the brand and if Hasbro turns on that segment to support a potentially phantom segment (children), a reasonable person could also question the veracity of that approach. |

It's amazing how upcoming movie figures spark either excitement or blah. This is just one more example of how Hasbro is slowly killing the line. When the hard core collectors start passing on Joes, who is going to buy them? I hope that waves 2-7 rekindle the collectors' fire and gets the line going again. Demographic research was done to even release a second film so hopefully this means more Joes if this movie does well. Lets hope Bruce Willis and the Rock draw a new audience of kids and adults and the line comes back strong!
I don't hate the movie stuff we've seen so far. It has a better military and GI Joe feel than the first movie figures did where it felt like an X-Men rip off and what were they thinking with Cobra. But I'm not loving the movie stuff either so far. Some nice figures where I'm thinking okay I'll try to get that figure, but also figures that just can't seem to catch my interest as a potential buy. Feels like eh maybe buy if money isn't tight one week when the line is sitting on the local store shelves but no excitement of I must rush out and buy the figures as soon as they get released. |

CrimsonGuard gets it right. If collectors are turning their noses at Retaliation figures, than the kids better be buying them. Is that happening? I tend to doubt it, but I guess we will have to wait.

To be honest, I think I'm looking forward to you guys talking about your impressions of the upcoming waves as much as I am in finding them in stores myself.
