Let's take a minute to compare Joe to some of the other figure lines out there, military and otherwise:
Modern Military: BBI Elite Force, Bravo Team, 21C, World Peacekeepers, whatever that new line is at Target - Joe may not have quite the level of accuracy as some of these lines, but Joe has better articulation and tons more characters/personalities. Some of these lines have vehicles that are more accurate and better detailed, but all have fewer vehicles available and less variety than the Joe line. Prices range by quality, but Joe figs generally cost a little more. McFarlane Military: Joe is less accurate, but the McFarlane figures have no articulation. McFarlane has no vehicles. McFarlane figs cost more. Halo (Future military): Have more articulation than Joes but much less variety, no vehicles currently. Halo figs cost more. Iron Man: Iron Man figures have more articulation, but much less variety and no vehicles that I know of. Iron Man figs cost more. So Joe compares quite favorably to all the other military lines I know of. Other action figure lines: Star Wars: Joe has better articulation, similar quality, less variety, slightly lower price. Indiana Jones: Joe has better articulation, slightly better quality, more variety and a similar price, until IJ line was cancelled and went clearance. So Joe compares pretty well against these as well. I don't know enough about any other similarly scaled action figure lines to compare. Overrated? I think not... |

I love them, but I do think they are overrated. The articulation are not as good as the originals. I can't do the splits. I can't sit them on a chairs. They can't hold their guns. The waist are not as flexible as they where before. Overall they are not as playful as they where when I was a kid. But since I collect for nostalgia and they do look cool. I'll keep buying them.
As for the Joes.when I opened my first 25th ann Joe I knew if I would have had this as a kid I would have hated them. They just would break to easy. Now that I'm older i keep them moc so they are not overrated to me , as for overrated what about Starwars? I've never seen so many repacks/ repaints.

Henderson played on nine teams, but he's sure to be inducted as an Oakland Athletic, like Eckersley, and depicted wearing an A's cap on his plaque. The A's were Henderson's first and favorite team, so much so that he returned three times and wanted to return a fourth so he could retire in green and gold.

To hell with him.
If I wanted boring real world representations of my military figures I might as well replace my enjoyment of ninja turtles with more realistic martial arts trained radioactive turtles. And also, to hell with Transformers. Space alien robots aren't real either. Harumph. I want GI Joes because they're GI Joes. And that guy can eat the peanuts out of my shit.

i never cared about the actual joe characters. i liked the diversity of the figures though. i think thats why im kind of let down by the new figures. i customised every single one of my old joes to be a unique dude.
but as far as it goes, all the other military 3 3/4 figures are more accurate and stuff but they are cheaply made and arent fun to take out of the package. over rated... for the 8 bucks they cost yeah. they should be five. i was buying all of them but now i only buy the really cool ones. |
