What is the difference between the red masked cobra troopers and the black masked cobra troopers? I picked up a few the other day finally and could have sworn that the old versions from the 80s were just black masked?
Also, what is the deal with the foil trimmed cards that some figures come in? It seems that some have been available with the old school style and then also with the foil trim on the cards? Is one harder to find than the other or something? Any other differences? |

The foil cards are no longer available. When the line first came out, they had foil logos and a "25th anniversary" emblem at the top. Then these things started selling hot, and Hasbro re-released most all of the foiled figures on the white cards. Like a second chance to get them kinda thing. The foiled figures are not for sale now, therefore more valuable. You may find a couple on the pegs here and there, but they are either peg warmers or returns.
As in: 25th foil w1 Flint: about $50 on Ebay 25th white card w1 reissue Flint: $7 at retail. Others here will give you a better explanation, but that is it in a nutshell. As for the troopers, the black masked ones are true to the vintage. The red are a repaint for Hasbor to re-release a similar figure to get us to buy more. The red are a part of wave 13, I believe, and the black have been released in the early waves and in DVD and 5 packs since the 25th anni was released. There have been a couple red masks released, too, like the scarred officer in the comic pack with Fred.

Ok, thanks for the foil info... I tend to see them about half and half in the denver area but like you said it is mostly vipers and other peg warmers now.
