I was making a post in the local North Texas sightings thread that got me thinking. Of the 25th Era of figures, which version of a character do you prefer to display/buy rather than the others? Below is my list. You could choose due the coolest version, the one you personally like the best, the one you hold the most nostalgia to, the one that is the most articulate, the one that best represents the character, or whatever else. I used Yo Joe.com to figure out which charcters in the 25th Era have multiple versions. NOTE: some character names are melded with others (Cobra Air Trooper and Cobra Pilot for example), but some names have had a version dropped (Extreme Conditions: Desert Cobra Troopers are left out because they do not use hardly any of the core mold).
Feel free to copy my list if you want to make life easier on you. By the way, Here are the characters with the most versions: Cobra Commander (14), Snake Eyes (11), Destro (10), Duke (8), Crimson Guard (8) [includes officers and Python version], Storm Shadow (7), and Cobra Trooper (7). Here we go: Joes Ace - Comic 2pk white version although he needs a helmet seal adjustment Beachhead - the comic pack one with the single carded backpack and crossbow Breaker - the comic pack version (duh!) Deep Six - the SHARC one (classic V1) Duke - the generic single card/5pk first release (don't care if he has his backpack. He never used one anyway). Resolute is growing on me tho. Flint - the V1 release but the Cobra trooper one is very cool to me. Green Shirt - doesn't matter, they are just fodder Gung-Ho - jury is still out on the new one. wish the boots had laces like the vintage one Hawk - the comic pack one because he reminds me of playing in 1983 with V1 Hawk leading my team Lady Jaye - the DVD version. just way too good version of cartoon design Roadblock - V1 for the same nostalgia purpose Rock-n-Roll - the first release. comic packs colors are off to me. Scarlett - V1, the pilot is cool but not cool enough (just fix the crotch please) and the comic color was not good Shipwreck - classic blue shirt with Shark tatoo for me Snake Eyes - of the 11 versions, I have the V1 blue one but will give it to my son so I can nab the V1 black one. I like a lot of the others (V3 is cool except for the butterfly swords are messed up). Stalker - UBP dark green for me. looks like true camo Steeler - UBP again. the color just sits well with me. (need a corrected visor BIG TIME tho). Storm Shadow - V2 (but would love a V3, please Hasbro?) Torpedo - black and gray. will use the yellow/black SRO version as Duke or someone else. Tripwire - too little difference but want the Wave 12 one with the element for my MASS device Wild Bill - V1 is good but I'm OK with the 2pk blue one because I liked the comics and the helmet is cool too. Cobras Baroness - I'll wait for the new 5 pack one. Otherwise the cartoon is my choice. (I'll live with the glasses) BAT - I like the DVD one better. I like using them clean. I'll get the battle damaged one later, but for some reason the red face plate works for me. Cobra Air Trooper - I like the Pilot version with the red helmet. I'll give him a JUMP pack to see what he looks like Cobra Commander - The DVD hooded one is cool, but the V1 with stripe is best for me. Cobra Driver - the classic Stinger Driver is best over the HISS driver from the Target HISS release. Cobra Officer - the single carded V1 is best but I also like Scar Face (he is is a separate character in my book). Cobra Trooper - I'll go with the 1st 5-pack trooper. If I could get that one with a FULL red mask (includes the upper neck) that would be my fave. Copperhead - sticking with V1 (not a Python Patrol fan) Crimson Guard - As long as he has the correct vintage style gun and 90% red uniform, I'm ok. No black fronts, 1920s rifles, nor Python Patrol for me. Destro - I like the DVD V1 version and the single carded V2. Those are almost 2 different characters because he left Cobra for the IGs. Firefly - The V1 first release with some of the comic pack gear (backpack and rifle) would be best in my book. I would like Hasbro to do the vintage rifle though. HISS Driver - I'll take the V1 but use the blue one as a separate character of Rip-It. Iron Grenadier - I'll take the first comic pack release/SRO release that doesn't have purple (they are the EXACT same thing unless someone has a microscope). Major Bludd - I like the Extreme Conditions: Desert version because of the chest piece, the corrected legs and he's black colored. I still think the DVD version is kinda' cool tho. Red Ninja - doesn't matter to me Ripper - comic pack release is best due to vintage style. Scrap Iron - V1 classic is cool but love the Extreme Conditions: Arctic one for special use. Serpentor - the DVD one is best so far, but would prefer an even better one with better gold and green coloring. Snow Serpent - like the basic V1 release but the Extreme Conditions: Artic ones are cool too. Tele Viper - like the classic V1 best. Even with Viper arms, he's meant to drive a computer or T-Bubble due to his job description (I think the T-Bubble would be a great field communications anchor). Torch - comic pack V1 is best but would prefer boots to be fixed. Viper - classic V1 is best, but the Red one is growing on me and the Extreme Conditions: Arctic ones are pretty slick. Wild Weasel - not enough difference to care Wraith - like the clear one. It just looks cool. (never read about him in the comics to understand the character). Zartan - the newer 2nd release is best. Just wish they would have molded a little bit of t-shirt under his chest armor. Liked that in the cartoons.
