So 2008 is over and so is a full year of collection the 25th anniversary figures. The 25th line proved to be worth the hype and is considered to be the best line since the classic 82-87 line. We saw many great figures from the days of old reissued such as the B.A.T. (my personal favorite), Eel, Viper, Cobra Trooper, Airborne etc.. Its also quite obvious, that these toys really wern't designed with children in mind. I would have went nuts when I was kid with how easily allot of the parts can be lost. Is it just me, or are there other people out there who scream everytime the goggles fall off of the Cobra Viper. These figures also proved that they can easily be broken. I must have tore off at least five hands and arms while trying to articulate my figs. I havn't been this frustrated since I kept on breaking the thumbs off of my classic figs. Although I love the majority of the figues in the 25th line, I have to ask, do we really need all the differant versions of Duke, Cobra Commander, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow and Destro? And why is there a pilot Scarlett being made before Dr. Mindbender, Raptor, Airtight, Footloose, Recondo or Wetsuit? Really, doesn't it make more sense to put Dr. Mindbender in the "Arise Serpentor Arise" DVD set than say Montezzuma's skeleton. I know that the 25th line isn't going to run forever, especially with the movie on the horizon, so lets hope that Hasbro pumps out at least another dozen or so figures that we really want. Im sorry, but Red Star was never at the top of anyones list. So what are your true thoughts on the 25th line.

They make them because those are key characters that everybody loves and everybody will buy. Its money in the bank. But I agree, I think everyone would rather see Wetsuit, Footloose, Mindbinder, ect. before other figures. |

I don't think plastic skeletons have sexual prefrence, and if they did it wouldn't matter.

I feel your Viper goggle pain, man. It wouldn't matter as much if they didn't look so wrong without them. But yeah, Vader and Corndog put it very well, these characters represent GI Joe. For example, I was showing my brother in law my collection and the first thing he said was, "Hey, look, Destro!" He then went on to buy my nephew a HISS Tank for Christmas. Hasbro knows what they're doing for the most part, the kids they're trying to sell Joes to don't even know who Mindbender is. 2008 was basically servicing us, the people who grew up with them, and they can hold off on the Wetsuits and Range Vipers, now that they have their hooks in us again. By the looks of the Greatest Battles DVD pack, they're going in a kid-friendly direction before the movie, and they've already said they'll throw a few classic figs in with the upcoming waves of movie figs. I have faith we'll get most of the old school awesome, we just have to be patient. That in itself is tough though, what with them flooding us with figures over the last year. We've come to expect the line to slam us with a new wave every month or less, and now that that isn't happening, we're all like "WTF?"

I can't get enough of this stuff but there are a ton of characters that need to be made. And until they are I won't feel my collection is complete. (Lowlight, Ripcord, Recondo, Footloose, Dial Tone, Zarana, Zandar, Monkeywrench, Thrasher, etc.)

ya know, I like a lot of the "international homage" figures. I can wait for other US based figures to be made (Pretty sure Hasbro has said Mindbender is coming) or just wait for the right parts to be made to make my own (My Breaker is still better than Hasbro's )
As for the Goggles, When they fall off, turn them upside down and sqweeze them back on the head. I've done that with all 6 of mine and one fell off once or twice afterwards (And that was because my finger knocked it off) I really like the removable accessories and vests and such. It takes what was cool about the 12" joes and puts it to use on our beloved 3 3/4" joes |

To answer your question about why we need multi figures of core characters is simple....take a look at Star Wars. You will always find a core character on the shelf. Vader, Luke, Han and the droids are key pieces for new collectors and children alike. Just like SW, the Joes need to have a continual presence of core characters on the shelves. These toys represent a brand and this also enables new collectors and kids to get these characters. This is something we have to live with and I welcome it with open arms. Why you ask? If Hasbro feels the need to include one of the above characters in an assortment then that enables more people to get the characters they want and the line grows.
