I think Hasbro should increase the case size. From 8 figures to 12 or 16 figures. This would get more product on the shelves and they would sell more product. They could put 2x each army builder in the case and if they know the army builder is going to be popular like the upcoming alley viper. They could make them 4x a case instead of filling them with revision figures.
Kids don't want another spirit or wild bill. They want the cool figures. Then again, this would make cases over 200$ each and in this bad economy, I doubt online retailers would be willing to put down that kind of money for something as fickle as gi joe. Yes, I know it sells. But according to some of you, 2009 is not the year for joe due to the movie. |

Because online retailers do not even come close to the buying power of Walmart or others. So when Walmart orders cases they get them FAR cheaper for each than say a smaller operation geared for collectors do as they can not buy as many at one time. Thus they do not get the price break the big boys do.
Does this answer your question or am I way off on what you were looking for?

Walmart can sell cheaper for 2 reasons:
(1) large volume purchased (2) manufacturers have to agree to take product back |

the more army builders you buy, the more cases the online retailers have to buy. the more cases they buy, the more non-army builders they get stuck with.
that's why army builders cost more, to make up the costs of the non-selling figures in the cases that they later have to discount. |

I am still paying $5.99 at of all places, the grocery store by my house. They get new cases all the time, probably because they can't stock them fast enough.

Not all online retailers gouge people. SIdDarth at The Outer Rim Collectibles does a super job at keeping prices fair. Most army builders are $6.99-$9.99

Yeah if you have enough pull like Walmart you can RTV a lot of product back.
