Recently, I've felt like Hasbro has been coming to this very forum and looking for ideas for the 25th Annv Joes line.
A common custom is take Cobra vehicles and make them Joe vehicles and vice-versa. This isn't anything new even in WWII Germans used repainted Shermans and the Allies were known to repaint a Panzer or two. So I know a few months back I see a custom for a Tiger Force Rattler. It was awesome. Now what do I see from Hasbro this spring ... a Tiger Force Rattler! And a Cobra Conquest! Also, arriving just in time for the new year...an Artic Hiss. A Hiss that looks very much like those customized here on the 'Tank' --complete with stowage! I've bought tons of weapons from Marauders Gun Runners because I like the removable clips and silencers etc. Now I open my new Beachhead/Main...er...Dataframe comic pack and what do I see Beachhead's weapon has a removable clip and has a spare in an ammo pouch. Don't get me wrong. I like the detail but wonder if they stole the idea from the customizers and the devoted fans??? Its possible this is nothing new (both customizing and officially licensed) from Hasbro. I just got back into collecting with the 25th line as it brought back the magic of GI Joe that I remember in the 80s. The 90s were a blur for me and definitely watching keeping up with Joes then. What's next from Hasbro, Desert Hiss or Tiger Force Whale??? Thoughts??? |

They have done repainted Joe/Cobra vehicles and vice versa in the original Tiger Force/Python Patrol.
1 custom figure idea that Hasbro blatentedly stole was Aloysha's Interigator figure that they used for the Viper PIt pack couple years ago. |

First off, how can Hasbro steal what is theirs?
There was a Tiger Force Rattler and Python Conquest in the original line. Some of the weapons in the VvV line had removable clips and silencers. In this day of repaints, it's a no-brainer to repaint the HISS, or any other vehicle, for different environments.

i have only begun posting a few comments on this site but have been silently watching for about 2 years. I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY WHO NOTICED THIS.
i could compile a list. half-empty vs. half full. "major bludd is wrong they should have made him with a hisstank driver toso" - a tanker who posted his custom. hasbro in turn released the "corrected" version, a couple months later, in the frankenstien desert pack thing. so, in my opinion, yea, it definitely happens. weather it is COINCIDENCE ??? or not, hasbro knows,...there are only so many parts and ways to put them together and if you're running a business you capatilize on existing molds. in addition the arguement could also be made that they are actually listening to the voice of the consumer/fan by giving them requested products. so are they the good company trying to give to thier fan base or an evil company bent on stealing from thier consumers ? half empty vs. half full. my opinion,.. i think they've done an awesome job thus far with the line. f you feel your ideas are being stolen,...either produce and market said ideas or don't post them. |

A good 90% of the time, any "fresh idea" a fan has, Hasbro has generally already explored. This includes repaints/kitbashes, accessory packs, and large items. Hasbro typically has access to many of these parts MONTHS ahead of any fan. Given tooling time, things like the Artic Hiss were already well into design by the time any custom might have hit the net. I can guarantee you that they already have an idea for a Dice figure after sculpting the mask included in the new comic pack Storm Shadow.
