I know my brother and I are trying to do our part as many of you are as well. My nephew loves GI Joe and I will continue to try and give them as presents to other kids who might need a present. The movie and new toon will bring in a whole new group of fans and we will see the line gain in popularity once again.

I don't see Joes challenging the success of Star Wars and Transformers without a TV show. TFs have both. Star Wars has both. Hasbro needs a kid version of G.I.Joe unless they are trying to market to the older ages because of the "guns" thing. Resolute could be that answer. We'll see.
I am showing my 5 yr old son all of the old cartoons. He likes them. He asks for more Joe stuff every time he sees a show. I'll try to enlarge his collection, but it will be hard because my wife hates G.I.Joes. Oh well. She'll get over it.

Not much moving here either in VA. I did see my first repack this morning. It was a UBP at Target. Destro, the cobra gunner, Stalker, and the Hiss Driver all replaced with some crappy replacements. I always, thought is was funny seeing them posted before from other tankers, I really was pissed when I saw this in person. What a piece of crap.

I stopped by Toys R' Us this weekend to check out some joes and they didn't have a large selection. what was cool was this toyline right beside gijoe, of a steath-black F-22 fighter, f/18 hornet (not as impressive as the f-22) and tank. same scale, you can fit a joe in the cockpit. Details were excellent on both, i forgot the name of it.

GI Joe's day is coming soon! I gave a friend's son some of the overflow from my 25th collection. This kid is (like his father was) a Transformers fanatic. Since he got my joes, however, he's been playing with them no-stop. I really hooked him up, too. He's got a better collection than I ever had as a kid, and he loves 'em. Once the movie's out, the tide will turn. Yo Joe!

you can't even really blame the environment as much as many would like. think about it this way, we grew up in a world vastly different than our parents did and agruabley with the same increase in violence exposure. the gaps are very similar, only the details have changed. we think we turned out well but it's a credit to our parents who seemingly did a good job with similar challenges.
now go back and read many of the threads here disparaging kids of today... what does that say about our 80's generation of parents and the job we are doing? how does this change your imjpression of what we were influenced with as kids and the job we are doing as parents?

my point was more on reflecting on what we say here about the kids of today. it typically starts off with we got this or that and we ended up fine however we are the people teaching the kids of today whom we are complainging are weak, less masculine or some variation of that theme. how is it that the generation that seemed to have gotten by with all these 'war' toys is somehow now the ones saying joes are not the best choice? there have probably been hundreds of posts claiming kids now are somehow less masculine, less ability to be boys or do what boys do due to parental choice of toys, rules etc. the kicker is, we are the ones influencing these choices, rules, etc. were saying it's ok for us but not for our kids... it's just an intereting thing to ponder is all.
about the last post, just arguining the changes in environment does not work considering each preceeding generation has had similar leaps and bounds in environment changes and this one is not much if any differnt than the last in the large picture. the answer to this thread is very simple however. it was never a line marketed toward kids. it begun as a collectors line and has largely remained so. put resolute out as a full production cartoon and you'll have kids coming in from all over. just as in the 80's, kids respond to tv... always have, always will.

I think we've done just fine without the kids so far. Hasbro reported earlier this year that the modern GI Joe line has exceeded their expectations so I guess that means the sales are fine without the younglings. If the little kids don't want them it's up to us big kids to keep this thing going. With that said, I a couple months ago I gave my one year old nephew the cobra shaped music box that came with the Cobra Legions pack and today he spoke a new word. This word was "COOOOOBRA!". Maybe there is hope.

besides joe emmersion in my house, i give plenty of joes as gifts to kids and so far all of them were well received. i'd say atleast 2 sets of target jets, 3 sets of wave 1 vehicles and atleast a couple dozen figures. most if not all have gone on to get more joe toys. start small and let the snowball grow on it's own...
