I collect variants including repaints. I stopped collecting MOC a long time ago, or I would need a warehouse just for my personal collection. So I only collect loose. Doesn't save you much money, but saves a ton of space and you'll enjoy them more.
Don't count out the movie figures just yet, you never know if you'll like them or not...I am buying them either way. I wanted to add some other cool directions other collectors have taken with their collections: A) Collect anything associated with your favorite character or characters (ie: a wall full of Snake Eyes collectibles) B) Loose figures, but stay away from vehicles (you can usually find someone willing to part with the figures from those vehicles) C) Keep them packaged but only collect single cards (No Comic Packs, No Vehicles, No Battle Packs) Just some ideas

At the start of the 25th line in '07 I figured it was my opportunity to collect absolutely everything single-carded. I was 20something years older, with my own home and own disposable income, so I figured it was the perfect time to make a collection to be envied by the time the 50th Anniversary rolls around.
And up to wave 9 I had everything, everything - yellow Stalker, gold/silver head PDD, all variants of Shipwreck, black/white timber, everything. Then the half indiana jones half g.i. joe SDCC '08 exclusive came out and I threw in the towel. I couldn't bring myself to buy a CC that looked like crap and is based on one cartoon panel of a 150+ issue series of comics. It was ridiculous in my mind. Then I realized, if I don't get him then I can't have the ultimate complete collection...but I just couldn't get him, black or blue suit. So that's where I drew the line. From then on I only collect what I like, in the last few waves I've only picked up some Eels, Zartan, Airborne to open. I've also changed my goals: 1985 was the banner year for me so I try to collect everything MOC and loose of 1985 in 25th style, so yeah I'm the only one buying that MOC Ripper and MOC Torch in wave 12 & 13 to keep that part of my collection going By picking and choosing, space is no longer a major issue, the wallet can breath a little, and I'm enjoying the toys much more than if I were hording them. Plus the money I got from selling Yellow Stalker a while back paid for so much stuff I couldn't be happier!

That's funny; your goal changed was good because it allowed you to free up some cash, but then it was bad because it compelled you to buy the new Dreadnoks. LOL.

Couldn't have said it better. Of course, if we all thought this way then the Joe line would probably end because there'd be noone out there buying the resolute or movie crap Hasbro is about the start cranking out.

Hey guys, Ive been collecting since '07 when the 25th Anny first came out. At first, I said to myself "Im just going to get everything with a 25th logo on it, once Hasbro removes the logo, Im done". Well here we are going into '09 and Im still chasing everything Hasbro is dishing out at us. So far Im up to date except for wave 12, the TRU CG & Greenshirt packs & the last 3 TRU SROs.
Thing is, Im running out of room. And spending too much on CPs, Singles, Vehicles, Exclusives etc etc... I dont know how to quit though. With wave 13 I found myself entering into the Resolute line which Im not sure I want to collect, even though Im very impressed with the new sculpts they have. Where should I draw the line? Should I just stick to the single carded stuff and forget about the rest? somebody had to say it. |

I'd say if you're searching for a reason to quit collecting, then that should be enough of a reason right there.
Ultimately, it's up to you when you want to stop. We're just like any other addicts, we have to make a conscious effort to quit. |

I sold off all my MOC stuff, all my army builders, my vehicles, and all my extras. I now have only the unique characters, that alone requires two bookshelf shelves. Occassionally I'll keep a spare of a figure, or accessories if I think I can kitbash down the road, but generally accessories are easy to come by to do that.

My collecting is consuming. It's awful. I have 2 of each figure....1 to open and one to save for future ventures.....and the worst part? I have an unopened case of each wave. I have all of the variants and SDCC figures.....all the vehicles and Target exclusives, not all the comic packs though, too many repaints there. I have no room for them.....they sit in my parents house....what a waste......except for the few that I love, my little Ninja Friends and Firefly, they get to stay here in the spare room. All of my single figures I have tracked down my self.....NO ONLINE PURCHASES....that is what has been fun for me and why I do this.
