The line has come a long way. Although the Indiana Jones sections are still bigger, my lonely endcap with 8 figures and 2 Comic Packs has been replaced with a sizable display. We're still on Wave 9 though. Wave 10 may be showing up soon. So BBTS beats my local retailers by months. If I see any troop builders I'd buy them but I never do. I think this goes back to an old discussion of Case assortments. Put more troop builders so they sell faster

Well the revisions allowed my brother to get in the game and buy his son Joes for the two of them. I know he is a new fan and excited to see anything GI Joe, so his Christmas is going to be pretty special because we loaded him up with a lot of cool figures.
That being said until we get more of the kids into it we will see the pegs clogged up. I did see a father at TRU and he was looking for Joes for his son. He didn't appear to have the foggyest idea what he was looking at but he started grabbing them and telling his wife that they looked cool. He was in his late 40's maybe early 50's, it sure did put a smile on me. His son had requested them mind you.

no from hasbro's persepective; scapler, collector, online retailer, etc. are all purhcasing the product regardless of where from. it's sold nad paid for, money in thier account.
brick and mortar retailer; yes, online sales mean less traffic/sales thus less orders placed by them to hasbro. they also have to compete against online retailers whom may not have the same overhead costs, etc. that come along with having a brick and mortar retail location thus higher markups as a result to cover these additonal costs.
online retailer; no, it only encourages them to slowly raise the price range due to preceived increase in demand thus willingness to pay higher prices.
consumer; no, it simply offers additional avenues for sourcing what may be impossible to find products in regional/local retail brick and mortar stores. it offers the opportunity to save additional monies by eliminating the transporation costs asociated with travel required for brick and mortar retail stores. yes, you may have to pay shipping but it often is less than the final cost of travel + purchase.
in the end, it's better for the consumer and hasbro. they are selling far more product as a result of the boundaryless expeanse of the internet thus widening the market for the product globally vs. domestic with no increase needed really for advertising and marketing. sure retailers order substantial quantities however they could just as easily continue doing so and offer the product online vs. the limited approach taken thus far. imagine flipping the situation where in store product is limited and online is seldom out of stock. and or the ability to order and ship to store for free as walmart offers.
i could be full of sh*& but this is how i see it.

But how does the line grow if the kiddies don't see new product on the shelves?
A line for pure collector's is a deadend.

I think its a hand in hand situation where both factors directly impact the other.
yesterday was the first time Ive gone to a store (wally-world) and found anything worth buying.
Usually when I go to the stores esp. TRU there are maybe 7 figures TOTAL on the shelves and they are always early wave 3-4 and and if we're lucky a wild bill or a bbq or a hawk.
Im not sure what the rest of Ontario is like, but from Niagara to Toronto I have only ever had one successful joe hunt, yesterday, and it was just a coincidence.
So with that said I think that people such as myself turn to online retailers, fellow tankers, and sadly e-bay to do a lot of their Joe shopping b/c its impossible to find anything worth while in any of their local stores.
It is especially frustrating for myself, and perhaps other Canadians, b/c we get these generic run of the mill cards which IMO look completely stupid. I dont display any of these cards, I opened all of the ones I bought.. so I am forced to use online retailers to get the regular US card art on all the figures so I have no other alternative when it comes to collecting.
I agree that a lot of the online sales probably do impact the Joe lines in the stores, with the amount of joes that we are buying it would be equivalent to the stores being completely stocked on about 10-12 full shelves circa 1984-ish, but it also seems that certain stores arent willing to put out more joe displays or any at all. This is again where we come to an impass and have no choice but to resort to online shopping.
Ive seen multiple toy lines out that never move, but are still on the front lines and always stocked.. certain toy stores still advertise for Spiderman 3 figures or Transformers lines that just dont move off the shelves but the Joe lines are always left with slim pickings. I think these stores need to re-evaluate certain lines and perhaps make room for a bigger joe selection.
That may help to bolster sales in the stores b/c everyone here is hunting almost daily, and not coming up with much.. so it could be a good idea!
Again just my opinion..
I'll still online shop b/c again.. the Canadian cards suck

I'd say no

Now about the topic on hand I don't think that buying off the Internet hurt the sales of retail stores. For every collector buying their figures online there is also another one who prefers making their purchases in retail stores to see the stock personally in the moment. There is a market for everyone and no one come out losing at all.

I don't think online sales hurt the line. It serves the needs for die hard collectors and those who don't have the time to go hunting. Most figures are still sold in stores though, so that means, more Joes are sold in stores versus online.
