k.. well when i was growing up in the 80's i had alot of g.i.joes and watched all the episodes .. anyways now that they have brought back the 80's 4" g.i.joe version it made me want to start collecting again... luckily i was at comic-con and got myself Cobra Commander (with blue Blazer) and since they were on sale at Target i got Destro(blade gold version)... during black friday i realized they had a MASK character as a GIJoe and bought Matt Trakker (which i was a big fan of M.A.S.K. too)........... so now im wanting to start collecting again... can any of you guys point me to what i could buy to start my collection and what i should know about collecting G.I.Joes? Second any new or old figures that is a must have for all collectors? Thanks.

Hit up yoejoe.com for any references of all the joe's/vehicles from the 80's till present. If the new anniversary Joes are your bag here is a checklist.Good luck.Catching up should not be to big an ordeal right now.You might have to hit up evil-bay for a few of the first waves.BBTS and hasbro toy shop will have most of what you need.

dude search gi joe sites on google and search through and and save to a favorites folder and also try to track down the ultimate guide to g.i. joe 1982-1994 guide book on ebay its a geat reference to everything from those years, but do not pay too much attention to the prices in the guide it was made a few years back and inflation has set in, as for 25th their are alot of ones worth some serious cash like the first issue flint and also snake eyes with black timber, also hold onto your sdcc cobra commander you may even want to get it afa graded at Action Figure Authority Home Page, good hunting and researching

You might want to hold off on buying that Ultimate Guide book because an updated edition is due out in June of 2009.
Here is a link to the new book on Amazon.com ...
Here is a link to the current book that is out there...

finding the older 25th line, really isnt too hard to do...but some of them (depending on how complete you want your set) may be a little pricey.....ive had very good luck, on the tank, with a lot of guys helping me out......my 2 sons have the whole collection opened, and i decided to get a MOC set for me....and now im only missing one...SDCC silverPDD, which i can get any time, if i want to pay for him....watch the forums tradelist, most of the tankers will help you out, but be prepared for questions and shipping first until you have a little time in....good luck...

hey and welcome to the tank- all the sites and advice listed above is good stuff, but I'd also just say hang out here a bit, ask questions, people are generally willing to help people get back into the Joe line. Your story sounds exactly like mine and several others here...
One more piece of advice: go slow! There are a ton of really good figures in this line, and you don't need to buy everything at once. Take advantage of the fact that many of the "older" figs that are new to you have lost value and you can get them at or even below retail from people here in our Buy/Sell/trade forum. You can also find good deals on grouped "lots" of figures there.
I came into this line during about the third "wave" of figures. I'm still always a wave or two behind, buying "older" figures at retail or less prices.

I started the exact same way, at Comicon this year. I haven't bought a joe toy in a long while before that. I bought the Black version of CC (all out of the blue) just in case I wanted to start collecting again. Having that figure in my hand sparked my interest all over again. 5 months later I have an good sized army that is going to continue to grow till the end of the line. Hisstank has helped me immensely! Take a look at...
I found these sites to be the cheapest for buying figs
entertainmentearth.com is good but you can only buy cases of figures
and despite whatever one else says on the boards I order from hasbrotoyshop.com at least twice a month. Retail prices, great discounts and promo codes (HOLIDAY25 gets you 25% off all orders on anything right now). I've never had a problem with them. Although many others have.
Hope this helps! Welcome aboard! Get building!

I would say the first thing to do is decide what you want before you start spending money. I see four types of collectors, in general. The completist (if it exists it is a must have), the retail completist (limited edition, specials, internet only, con stuff doesn't matter to them, but they must have all versions of anything released through the regular stores), the vunofitch (pronounced one of each, happy with A Duke, A Snake-eyes, A Stormshadow, etc), and the Army Builder (one SE and one SS but 50 Vipers). Most collectors fall into these categories or a slight variation thereof.
This is a hobby and suppposed to be fun. Decide what you want, work on obtaining what you want, and don't stress over the rest. There are no rules on what you must have to be a "real" collector. Your collection should be a reflection of you and what makes you happy.
My basic rule: (I have been collecting since '64) I want to look at my collection 10 years from now and say "wow, that is cool" not "why did I ever waste the money on that"

I just started again for my son (5). I bought some stuff for him for x-mas. After that I know every time we go to the store he'll want a Joe.........LOL. I have fun by finding the Joes and watching him have a good time like I did when I was a kid. I would say the biggest thing is have FUN first. Research, research, research, there are plenty of sites out there to cross reference for prices, info, etc.
