Over the years, my criteria for collecting has changed several times. Back in 1982, as a kid, I was definitely a completist. At that point hasbro could do no wrong. As I got older, and girls got more interesting, I wanted all the new product except the repaints. I drew the line at python patrol, tiger force, night force, and slaughter's marauders. By 1988, I chose sides and decided to only collect Cobra. I found it too difficult to keep up with all new product. In 1994 I drew the line again at manimals, extreme, and Sgt. Savage. I was out until the JvC line caught my interest. I used eBay to find the stuff between 1997 and 2001. By this time, hasbro had figured out my strategy, and started releasing two packs; so I was forced to buy joes when I wanted my cobras. I piled up a lot of Joe fodder throughout the vs., Spytroops, VvV lines, but I drew the line at Sigma 6. Had they been 3 3/4, I probably would have got them too. DTC kept me content until the 25th came out. I was still all about cobra, but I decided to pickup the OG13 as well. ROC came out and cobra still had my loyalty; but I picked up the movie cast joes in reactive impact armor, along with hawk, Sgt. Stone, and breaker. POC hit and lowlight was just too impressive to pass up. The joes were winning me back. In 2009 my wife and I had a baby daughter. All of a sudden, I was collecting all the female figures for my daughter. This passed year, I acquired a Defiant and a Flagg. Now I'm looking at star brigade and Joe navy stuff on eBay. While I'll always dig Cobra, I will add the retaliation movie cast figures to my ROC Joes. So I guess, now my collecting has changed to all Cobra, + all female figures, + all movie/cartoon characters, + star brigade and navy/marines. How has your collecting evolved over the years?

Or I guess a better question would be, what has caused your collecting habits to change over the years? For me it was a change in scale or articulation, the acquisition of the Flagg an Defiant, the birth of my daughter and the movies.

One of the major changes for me is the number of army builders in my collection. When I got back into collecting, I would only pick up 2 figures of each troop. Eventually I upped it to 4. The only groups that differs are: Eels (6, planned to customize the extra 2), Crimson Guard (8, 4 single carded and the 4 from the TRU 5-pack), and the Techno-Viper (2, don't see the need for 4).
I've also gotten into MOC collecting as well. Not so much on the Joe side though, but for other lines. Another change is with vehicles. At first I didn't want any vehicles as I didn't think I had the space for them. But that didn't last long, I had to have some. Those are probably at the top of the list for changes in my collecting habits.

I was a domestic completist until around 1992 when all the neon vehicles started coming out, that was when (other than repaints) I began to pick and choose. I did not have access to international or Toys R Us so I never got any night force or Action Force.
So anywhere in the line there was a repaint beginning with the gliders, I passed but otherwise if it was available or had GIJOE on it and i saw it, I picked it up. I got some of the stuff like bandaids, chapstick, etc but not a whole lot. I have gone back and picked up quite a few of the lunchboxes. I got the laser tag. I picked up a couple board games, all of the comics Including GI Jackrabbit. Then after 1994 I was all in again, bought all I could find including the micro machines. Only recently with ROC did I start to stop picking up vehicles. I still get the single carded figures. In the past few years I started to get the rarer one of a kind items from behind the scenes of the comics, cartoon etc. Really though the more fun part of collecting has now been creating things, custom ideas, art, decals on my car, costuming for con, etc.

Wow. Seems like it's a work in progress.
As a kid, I was a "completist". I'd get my hands on anything Joe my relatives would give me. I was able to resist the urges to buy toys when I got into jr. high and high school as well as college, so that means I missed the neon years and the VvV and spy troops stuff, as well as the DTC stuff. I was tempted, but time and finances didn't permit as I was going through college and med school/residency. The 25th hit just right for me as I started working and had a little more disposable income. At first, I was only gonna get Firefly, because he was my favorite character. But this prompted me to buy the vintage figure because I couldn't find mine. Then I discovered that there were more versions of FF out there, so I bought those too. My brother had my Tomahawk and vamp, and I was able to get them from him before we had a falling out. I bought a TTBP off of eBay as I have no idea where my original one is, and I bought a WHALE that I restored because I always wanted one as a kid but never got it. I bought a 25th Beachhead, which I noticed looked like FF, and this got me into customizing. That was a whole new sickness. I worked in getting vintage things I either had as a kid and really liked or didn't have as a kid but really wanted. I was still keeping my collection really small, collecting only FF, BH and SE. At that point, we didn't have ME Ripcord, Lowlight or Crazylegs, so I customized them. I kept buying figures that I could customize with, and RoC really bolstered that. The when PoC was released, I couldn't resist all the cool figures. I started lightly troop building --- 3-5 of certain troops. This has continued up to now. If the figure is cool, or if I can use it for parts or accessories, I buy it. I still buy a few vintage pieces here and there. I still customize somewhat. I buy just about every FF I can get my hands on. I have three separate "collections" ---- 1) loose/displaed --- which encompasses about 70% of my collection, 2) MOC, which is 5-10% of my collection, 3) and the remaining 20-25% is what you might refer to as the "Barbie collection" --- they are some of my favorite figures from the 25th on that I have, loose, in a large Plano tackle box, each in there own little compartments, that I get out from time to time and mix and match accessories to make even more awesome-looking figures. I'll probably show pics of it all sometime here on the tank. So I guess bottom line is that I have opened the boundaries of my collection somewhat over the last 5 years.

Well, as far as Joes go I got back into it during 25th like many people. My Wal*Mart didn't get a whole lot but I remember picking up a SE and SS two pack, and then picking up a Snow Job and an Iron Grenadier Destro. POC quietly released at WM during a time when I was mainly collecting Transformers Generations. I didn't really notice since Walmart had so many damn ROC figures. Eventually I came across some 30th stuff and picked up a Cobra Trooper, then a Ren Duke, Firefly and Steel Brigade. After that I ordered a Ultimate SE off BBTS and of course after that I had to get a Scarlett. After that I was done in. I suppose it was the change to the ME that really hooked me, it was part nostalgia and new. POC and 30th really continued the idea even further by reinventing the looks of characters while still having call backs to previous incarnations.

I am not a completest...I am selective. I troop build but try to keep it to (depending on characters) 4-6-or 8...but if I find figs on clearance I usually pick up more! I get pretty much any 1/18 3 3/4 action figure that I like and think will work with my Joes! Never been to into the Defiant and have had two Flaggs not sure if Ill ever get another. I just get what I like

My collection has been strictly Gi Joe until this year, when I added a Nick Fury figure from Iron Man II.

I mainly just picked up any of the newer repainted ARAH stuff that was released in the late 90s and early 2000s, mainly just cuz I didn't have them as a kid, then the 25th came out and I got those and then soon as ROC came out I sorta went full force a bit and had to have everything, but now that prices are 10+ dollars anymore I don't get near as much stuff. Just stuff i really must have.
