I wouldn't troop build my Joes even if I had the option. My Joe unit is a tight group of about 12-20 individuals. That's the whole thing about GI Joe... the cartoon may have had greenshirts, but to me, there's GI Joe, then the rest of the armed forces.

The Greenshirts to me are the support arm of G.I.Joe. They are the base personal (security, maintenance, mechanics, communications, etc..).
Dial-Tone and Breaker are the field guys, but there's a team of comm ops back home to handle things at base and pass off communications from Hawk to the field.
They are the mechanics that keep the vehicles working. They are the flight crew that prep the jet fighters. They are the sailors that man the FLAGG.
So yeah, some more generic sailors and air force personal wouldn't be too bad, but for the most part the Greenshirts can do it.
I'm going to use comic pack Hawk and comic pack Duke (the one that came with Red Star) as the leaders of the Greenshirts. They are base personal but in charge of overseeing the Greenshirts operations.
Just gotta come up with some names for 'em and some ways to make 'em unique.

I agree. They should also make mechanic green shirts for fixing equipment, re-fueling planes, etc...
I have 2 boxes of the green shirts. I use them for the lookout towers, to man the main guns on the GI Joe Head Quarters and on the grounds, and to patrol the perimeters of the GI Joe base. I have them doing all the grunt work and they never go into battle. I asked for a 3rd set for Christmas from my wife.

Multiple versions of the same character become some of my "greenshirts".
Duke, Snake-eyes, Mirage, VVV Gung-Ho, Leatherneck, JVC Recondo.
ARAH Brown Hair Duke is just a bad-ass greenshirt. Non-facial hair Leatherneck is generic looking so he is a disposable greenshirt. I got about 12-14 different Snake Eyes and V2 is the real one for me. The rest I imagine them as "other" bad-ass commandoes but can be killed unlike SE. JVC Recondo is not the real Recondo because they have a clean cut face w/o the trademark mustachio and hat. I like the fact Hasbro released them with Black Iron Grenadier so I got me a squad of each.
I use the keychain Joes and Greenshirts also.

I guess the only way to have a greenshirt army is round up a majority of Commando Dukes from Red Star pack or a S#&@Load of SRO Grunts

Sorry, I haven't read all the responses to this...I'm sure MANY match this...
the JOES are meant to be the ELITE of the Military. Each member an individual. The top of the line in their chosen field. Could you really see a troop builder armada of Snake Eyes? How about a squadron of Flash's? While cool...it defeats the purpose of JOE. A small team of EXPERTS in their chosen field. Could a garrison of Vipers stand up to a gaggle of Gung Ho's? F' no!
Me and Daremo actually had a discussion about this not to long ago. When all the 86 Joes replaced everyone beforehand. Flash was replaced by Sci-Fi, Doc by Lifeline, Wild Bill by a crossbreed of Lift Ticket and Cross Country (Scary, I know...but that's how they is down in the south!)
(That WAS a joke)
A JOE troop builder is none the less the GREENSHIRT...which by the way, kinda' takes the place of Grunt.
And far be it to ubserp the grandour of one of the original 13.

No, i don't want any random generic military army builders for joes. I have zero intrest in any other sort of military toys, the reason i like gi joe, is because they are sweet individual characters thats i love. Then it would just be like any other military toyline that i find totally uninteresting. They are an elite fighting unit compared to the hordes of cobra.
The only exceptions i think are the green shirts, who' i've never seen as being "gi joes" there just regular military dudes that help out the joes with background stuff.
The other thing i think would be sweet is the Steel Brigade, i'd love a boxset of steel brigade members, they could all have slightly different bodies like the original varations, and it'd be sweet if they made a female steel brigade member in the set.

I always thought of Joes as elite, special indivduals who were selected because they were the best of the best.
While Cobra is faceless Legions.
