I used a receipt to get my price-match. I got some eyes rolled at me, but hey, if it works, eff 'em.

First, it qualifies as an in store ad.
I used to work for target and here's how this works: The temp price cut tags on pegs are for items that the company is not "pushing at the door" in fliers, usually smaller things and non-seasonal items.
FLIERS are reserved for bigger items that pertain to the season, and/or larger promotions like new video game and movie releases and Target exclusives.
Non-push items that are still on sale, or temp price cut, don't make the flier because they are less important to the store and take up too much ad space on the limited pages within the flier because they are small. Bigger sales get flier space. Smaller items are tagged throughout the store. But both are part of the same sale. More important items make the paper flier, less important are tagged in the store.
Second, there's 3 other pegs with the same JOE temporary price cut tags on them for the people that need to see the in store ad for the price cut.
Third, they honored it. Twice.
Fouth, when I worked at Target and we'd put multiple tags on the section so people CAN take the tag to guest service for questions, or home with them if we were out of stock because we'd get a sheet of them to bombard the section with.
5- I used to work at CVS and it's the same thing with their ad tags on the shelves. Multiple tags for customers to take to the front for questions, because the in store flier can only hold so many items on the pages which are the important items to be advertised in the flier. Like I said before, bigger items, seasonal and items specifically sent to CVS from the manufacturer for specific ad space on the page are pushed on paper fliers.
This just shows how long I have worked in retail. Which I don't anymore. But that's how it works, unless you work in a retail store in bizarro land.
And employees love when you take the paper of any kind because it's less to clean up.

If you have issues taking the tag, take a clear picture with your cell phone cameras. I keep one on mine and i use it when they ask.

I price matched twice, once where the lady just asked me how much, and I told her $4.99, with the special early bird price, I got them for $3.99
The second time I hit a couple Targets before and took a tag, I worked in retain for over 10 years, so I know all about the printing of tags and one lil' missing tag isn't gonna cause an uproar, so it fell in my pocket and I went off to Kohl's and showed the lady, I explained I couldn't find a flyer in the store(which is true, Targets usually don't have them sitting there for you like some stores), but told her the tag fell in my pocket, she loved that one and laughed and gave me the price match, and again, they range up for $3.99..
Granted now if every single Joe collector goes out and snags all the tags and 90% of all their stores are tagless, then.. and only then I'd see it as a problem, but I even doubt that, cause there's a handful of Targets I went to that didn't even have their price cut tags up.. so go figure...
Now before someone turns this into "what about how the internet ruined the Target toy coupon earlier in the year".. that's a little different, if people went home and digitally manipulated the target tags and then took them back to shelves.. then yeah.. that's a little different.. I only brought that up cause I read somewhere(I don't think it was here) someone talking about that coupon.
Anyway, give it a try, it wont hurt, if anything, buy a Joe at Target for $4.99 and use the reciept, it's dated, so it should work too if you don't want to "risk it".. then just take the fig back to Target if you don't want it.
I got 18 figures over the weekend at half the cost they'd normally cost me.. can't beat that!!!
