I hadn't been keeping up with what was going on with Joe chase figures when I came across a clear Wraith figure for 20 bucks. I just thought he was a regular release until I saw how much they were going for on Ebay later that night. I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging, but I know I got lucky on that one. Now, if Hasbro could just actually make enough of the regular figures and not worry about chase ones. What do they do, ship one box per Walmart? That accounts for the rarity of all figures; well, that and morons who buy up all the figures and post them on the Bay. Okay, let me get off my soapbox.

Finally someone is using the correct term "chase" figures. I've been using that word here forever because everyone seems to think every little thing is what they like to call a "variant". Sure they are all variations in one way or another, but when it comes down to it they are just changes or production errors.
The real "chase" figures are ones that are released at the same time as their regular counterparts. The best way to explain this is to look at figures such as Marvel Legends which have characters that are released with 2 different outfits at the same time. For instance the recent Marvel Legends Red Hulk wave has the regular yellow and blue Wolverine plus a "chase" or "variant" figure of him in all black. These figures are short packed. Another good line to look for this is in the DC Universe Classics line. If you look at figures such as Wave 2 Aquaman he comes in his classic outfit as well as his modern outfit. For Wave 3 you have masked and un-masked Deathstroke as well as Sinestro in his classic black & blue outfit as well as his yellow Sinestro Corps outfit.
For this new G.I. Joe line I only count the "chase" or "variant" figures as follows...
Snake Eyes with Black Timber (gray Timber is the common version)
Shipwreck with Shark tattoo (anchor tattoo is the common version)
Iron Grenadier Destro with black head (gold head is the common version)
Wraith clear blue version (sliver painted is the common version)
Destro SDCC Pimp Daddy gold version (silver head and stand is common version)
Cobra Commander SDCC blue suit with podium (black suit is the common version)
These "chase" or "variants" were released at the same time as their common counterparts.
I do not include the banana yellow Stalker on this list because he was released first by himself before the green version. Fans complained because he was yellow so Hasbro made the change. So he is part of production changes along with everything else from the hooded Cobra Commander gold leg strap buckles, and dark hood to all the retooled crotches, arms and foot pegs on stands. Some other production changes were the anchor of Gung-Ho's hat and Shipwreck's belt buckle as well as adding peg holes to some figure's backs. There are plenty more but you get the picture.
If anyone else has any REAL "chase" figures to add to the 6 figures I have listed above please do so, but make sure they are real and not just errors or corrected changes.

Remember when everyone thought that Shark tattoo Shipwreck was the common version? Heh... think I bought mine on eBay for less than retail.
