I’ve been thinking about this for a while but in light of the revelation earlier this week that the movie would be pushed back and this morning’s
“Official Statement” I just had to post ….. Why is it that MOTU, a brand that is not even available at retail and is widely regarded as one of the most poorly managed toy lines (both 200X and Classics) EVER, has a voice among the fan community and Joe doesn’t? Toy Guru gets a ton of heat over at The Org, and rightly so, but I gotta give the guy credit; He’s THERE. Sure he spews corperate-speak and non-answers much of the time but he does answer a number of questions head on. Even if you don’t like the guy, you have to give him that. So now I come back to Joe, it’s pretty easy to say that Joe is more popular and successful than MOTU (even with the distribution nightmares) by a wide margin. The Fan Community is seemingly larger, the line is and has been at retail this second time arounf for more than a decade. There has been media Yo-Yo’d at us over the last few years. It feels like The ‘Bro WANTS Joe to do well but they apparently are hell bent on being sneaky about it. And they just aren’t sure HOW to make it successful. It is clear to me that a Scott Neitlich –esque rep out here in the community would do WONDERS for Fan morale and it would keep some of these “problems” from becoming “TEH END OF TEH LEIN”…… Think about how much “easier” things would have been these past few months if there was a person form Hasbro addressing the Renegades Cartoon, the Renegades SS deal, Dollar General Joes or, now this. C'mon Hasbro, get out in front of the issues, give us a liaison. Don’t let Mattel’s Toy Guru make you look bad, think about how ridiculous that sounds….. |

Just reopening the Q&A would be a STEP in the right direction.

Read up on "Orson's World" at Aaron Archer's wiki page:
Aaron Archer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Yes, Joe is bigger than MOTU, but that also means your fandom is significantly more fragmented.

Here is my take on it. I have been getting the impression that Hasbro and retailers are making it hard for the brand to continue brick and mortar. A few examples are the general Hawk POC waves with the Troopers and the JB's. Then there was the 25th fiasco where stingers and flak cannons were online only. Then the last few 25th waves didn't show up at retail, and instead went to some family dollars etc. I mean, why make it a pain in the ass for your fans where they have to start making trips to these off shoot stores like dollar general, family dollar, etc? I mean it just doesn't make sense. Why can I go to any store and buy any transformer, and yet it's not consistent with JOE? I should not have to go to the damn grocery store to get my toy fill got dammit! K, think I am good now.

They have fan community representation, Gyre-Viper's just afraid to admit it because we'd probably tar & feather him... we're a pretty angry collector group.

C'mon Hasbro, get out in front of the issues, give us a liaison. Don’t let Mattel’s Toy Guru make you look bad, think about how ridiculous that sounds….. This DID in fact happen with Transformers a decade ago, but because fan sites complained that said person was only posting on 1 site, Hasbro decided to remove him from not only there, but barred their employees from posting ANYWHERE and in place made something called "ask vector prime". Instead of asking stuff like "So Big Convoy, is it possible for release in the US?" and getting an answer like "no because Beast Wars Neo has animal alt modes that may be popular like giraffes, wooly mammoths, et al"(Big Convoy was later brought over as Nemesis Prime), or even US FANS being asked BY someone at Hasbro what WE WANT and actually seeing suggestions reach fruition, we got stuff like "HEY VECTOR PRIME HOW OLD ARE YOU? OH I AM MANY EONS OLD" WTF?! The GI Joe Q&A was like "ask vector prime" for GI Joe without the stupid and with 1/4-1/2 actual answers that weren't copy/paste statements from Hasbro's corporate mission statement. So the answer, no, a Toy Guru-esque liason from Hasbro is likely to NEVER happen. I would love to be wrong but hell given Hasbro eliminating ALL Q&A this year not just from GI Joe but from Marvel and Transformers too, Q&A resurrection does not seem likely. Now, given what I stated above, this does not mean Hasbro doesn't read the boards. |

I figure its cuz Hasbro products take up 75% of the toy section.

The "all sites not represented" stuff is a cop out. If there are Hasbro employees taking time to read the boardS then they could easily come to each of the sites and say, if you want your voice heard, collect legit questions and submit to X. Hasbro could even have their own site to aggregate the questions if they wanted to, and give REAL answers. Even if it was just a Q/A at least we'd have something.
Look, I'm not one of those raving "I demand to be heard" or worse, "I DESERVE to get what Iwant" fans and I completely understand that sometimes the officil word is gonna be "no comment" but I think, in this age, there's no excuse for not being "out there". ESPECIALLY when your (less successful?) competitor is doing it pretty well. Last edited by Omega 8; 05-25-2012 at 06:14 PM.. |

All anyone ever did was complain about the answers given in the Q&A's. All anyone does is complain about the answers given in the He-Man Q&A's. What's the point of even doing them if they can't give any solid information?
The only time I've ever seen someone give solid information was when Jesse Falcon would post on the Fwoosh, but that was back in the Toy Biz days, and Toy Biz was a much smaller company. |
