I don't think GIJOE collectors have ever had to deal with this in modern collecting times.
What this means is, some of you will find pallets at Wal-Mart with the movie stuff in it that they've brought from the stockroom before the street date. If you open a case and try to buy something, it'll say item not found then they call a manager who informs you of what you already know, that there is a street date and they're not allowed to sell them to you. This will happen even if an employee has mistakenly put the items out. We Star Wars collectors know all about this. What will piss collectors off is Hasbro will mix modern stuff with the movie line, so even though you're not getting a spoiler with, let's say, an Alley Viper, you might not be able to buy it 'til the street date. This happened with the Clone Wars toys. The first waves of the regular action figures had little to do with the animated movie, but yet were still subject to the same street date because they came out at the same time. So even if you plan to pass up the movie toys altogether, you might still get affected. Admittedly not a big deal compared to the Universe, but as I said, I don't think Joe collectors have had to deal with street dates at brick-and-mortar that I can recall. Well, maybe with the Target exclusives...and we all know how maturely and with such Zen-consistent serenity that Joe collectors handled that. |

Why is Cobra Commander and Destros masks such a secret?
Is his new look going to be the look to end all looks? But yeah, they do this with every movie. Aren't the movie toys suppose to be out April/May? The first waves at least. |

I think they have to keep a few secrets to get real Joe fans to go see the movie. Nearly everything i have seen so far sucks, and they have to read forums like this. If you are out there Paramount......thanks for f**king up what should have been a great movie.

Street dates mean scalpers will line the doors while I am at work, or while I am doing something else that is responsible like visit my parents. Street dates mean I don't get shit while the scalpers get everything. Damn idiots at Hasbro. Rant Over! Last edited by Bravestarr; 02-03-2009 at 01:33 AM.. |

Street dates mean I'm glad I know a guy at TRU who'll hold stuff for me.

It'll get announced, probably.
If not, they'll be stamped on the cases: "Do Not Open Until Whenever." Star Wars had a big thing about the Clone Wars stuff release date. Yes, it was such a big deal that one of our Wal-Marts didn't put their shit out until like two months later. Seriously. |

This is nothing new.
Happens all the time. These movie toys will be EVERYWHERE. Then marked down like the Indy figures. The 25th modern era stuff will always be the coveted figures. |

As a Walmart employee, there are ways to bypass those street dates. Last year when those Dark Knight movie masters figures came out my buddy had me ring him up. Figures scanned as <Item Not On File>. All I had to do was use the handheld scanner and force the figures on file, heck in that scanner you can also adjust price, adjust if the item is taxable, adjust if the discount can be used. So there are ways around that street date stuff. Heck, when Spider-Man 3 came out, we put up the figures a week before hand and sold out of them before the date. But a few years ago, the toys were only marked on the boxes not to display before a certain date.

At Wal-Marts they will drag out the pallets of the stuff to the sales floor in the middle of the night without realizing they're not supposed to be put out until the street date. So the pallets just sit there but if you open any of the cases the stuff won't ring up. I don't know what the policy is at Wal-Mart, like all pallets have to be dragged out to the sales floor at night even if the stuff is not going to be put out, but they do it for whatever reason. |
