Besides, once Classics were revealed, by and large, it became the favored collector line. And Classics DID end up coming back in the revamped Universe line.

Hate to burst the bubble, but Alternators were largely dead by the winter of 2006 anyway, to the point the last wave ended up Walmart exclusive in the spring of 2007. As is, the only reason the last couple ended up coming out was BECAUSE of the hype surrounding the movie.
Besides, once Classics were revealed, by and large, it became the favored collector line. And Classics DID end up coming back in the revamped Universe line. Nothing ever materialized out of that empty statement. I also feel that Classics is more in line with Resolute (being a modern, cheaper-produced update that may appeal to kids) and that Alternators was closer to the 25th line (higher quality production, more realistic updates in its designs, and more adult-collector-geared), but you could just as easily argue the opposite I guess. I saw Alternators as a strictly collector's line, and I see the 25th line as being the same thing. Again, I said I hope I'm proven wrong. I just think that if the movie doesn't do well and Hasbro overproduces (which they have a tendency to do with movie-tied merchandise) that it may not bode well for the 25th/ME line. |

I can only hope you are wrong (BTW, I agree with you). It would be a real shame, a huge disappointment and a complete joke if the movie line ended up killing the modern line. I would say it would go down as one of the worst mistakes/gaffs/blunders by a toy manufacturer in history. I'm sure Hasbro will be cursing themselves for a looooooong time if that happens (and we'll all be cursing Hasbro for the rest of our lives)! To have such a hot line such as this doesn't come by that often for toy makers and then to inadvertently (or maybe semi-unintentionally) kill it. I guess we'll all find out in about a year!
