The variations in real and fictional concepts varied throughout the years but the RAH G.I. Joe line has always skirted with the type of espionage fantasy concepts that have been found in other spy/military media like James Bond and Mission Impossible. Our generation's version of G.I. Joe has always been more Avengers, then the Dirty Dozen. Besides COBRA has always been the more experimental-tech oriented side in the conflict which if you think about it was probably a smart move on Hasbro's part back in the 80's. Kids who wanted something closer to real world military toys played with the Joes while the ones who prefered more sci-fi and 'radical' designs gravitated towards COBRA. I know Joe's always had the fantasy element. Heck, i LIKE that ~ no problem with ninjas, mind control devices, etc. I just felt like there was a point when the suspension of disblief got a little too far gone, and the figures to far removed form their roots, and ACC here was highly indicative of that. there were good, even great figures after 86, just seems like thats were things started to go in a direction that eventually "killed" the line. also, as an adult collector now I think i'm even more drawn now to the more realistic side of the fence. Even Zartan doesn't really appeal to me (now if tey did a comic pack with his parabolic compound bow, that might be another story...)

True. Also, action figures look a lot cooler on a shelf than stock certificates! BTW, lost a total of $3.20 since purchase!

On the real vs. fantasy side of things...I'm w/ you Artiepants (can't type name w/ straight face!). I've always loved both sides of the line, but definately digging the less outrageous elements now. Not sure why, but even v.1 Destro seems believable vs. a caped Iron Grenadier Destro!

One of the guys over at JC used photoshop to do v4 SE, that woulda been cool for Hasbro to have done for wave 6, give him some updated gear minus the neon colors and just add the arm guards,

I always pictured the joes and their vehicles to be more "grounded" compared to cobra. Who always had some crazy looking characters and hi-tech stuff . It just wouldn't be G.I. Joe to me if there weren't some sci-fi in it.
