Someone said on another board, that at the Con, they were talking with a guy on the Hasbro Joe team and the guy said basicly that they(Hasbro), needs to find a way to get a Snake Eyes in every wave, because of his popular appeal to kids. After seeing the first 6 waves, I'm starting to believe that now. Don't be surprised for SE v2 all black poping up in wave 7, which he shoulda been from the begining.

Yeah, but what made snake eyes so popular when we were kids...he was so hard to friggin find!!! I know kids dig him, so do I, but if everyone has 20 of him....he's not so special anymore is he?! |

that said, i think from a purely aesthetic standpoint that the folks at Hasbro did a spectacular job in this recreation: i just wish the effort had gone into almost any other character. say, Scrap Iron

It does hurt to see so many desired figures passed over for a remake of a cheesy Cobra Commander. I specifically remember thinking that GI Joe bottomed out when this crap was released in '87. I hated him then and I hate buying him again now just to get Torpedo.
I think the big difference now is, we KNOW there are still good figures yet to be released, and I firmly believe we'll eventually see most of the ones we want. Hasbro is just parceling out the good ones slowly to keep the hook baited. They'll hold us all the way through '08. I've probably spent $90 or so thus far. TRUMPETS PLEASE.....I JUST CANCELED $150 worth of preorders...mostly for stuff I don't want. It was a good run guys. I made it through Wave 2. BBTS never shipped 3. No Firefly. I'll never own Doc or Buzzer's leader & bretheren. No CG. No Snow Job...etc. Why? Because for every 1 figure I want, I have to buy 4 that suck! There's not enough closet space in my condo to dedicate one to Snake Eyes! By the end of '08 I'd probably be close to $500 in plastic? Don't get me wrong...I love these things! I just can't grab my ankles like this anymore! I just bought 20 shares of HAS on the NYSE. Currently trading around $26...close to a 52 week low. Keep buying those figures men! I'll live vicariously through your posts. I mean it! Best of luck! |

Since when was the 80's version of G.I. Joe ever grounded? There's always been a heavy level of sci-fi/fantasy elements in RAH, ever since it first began with the '82's selection of laser rifle troops and jet pack infantry. The variations in real and fictional concepts varied throughout the years but the RAH G.I. Joe line has always skirted with the type of espionage fantasy concepts that have been found in other spy/military media like James Bond and Mission Impossible. Our generation's version of G.I. Joe has always been more Avengers, then the Dirty Dozen. Besides COBRA has always been the more experimental-tech oriented side in the conflict which if you think about it was probably a smart move on Hasbro's part back in the 80's. Kids who wanted something closer to real world military toys played with the Joes while the ones who prefered more sci-fi and 'radical' designs gravitated towards COBRA. |
