One could argue that this line is adult oriendted only since it's adults who grew up with Joes and that their kids are only into it because they are, and I'm sure that there is a big portion of sales of Joes going towards that, but in todays competeive market one needs to do what they can to compete well enough to keep our favorite tos and vehicles on the toy shelves.
I will buy my favorite vehicles regardless, I open everything, but I feel you mint on carders pain.

I have a horror story.
I had it all when I was a kid. Had damn near everything from 1982 to 1987. Then took some time off and got back into it from 1989 to 1991. All the vehicles, the bases, the FLAGG. The FLAGG was ran over in the yard by a lawn mower. The Terror Drome and other things were stolen while I was at college. I don't know what exactly happened to each and every thing, but most of it was lost or stolen or destroyed. I did talk to a friend of mine from 1994 and he said he still has some of the Joes I gave him back in the 90's. Hopefully I can go to his house soon and see the good old figures again and shed a tear of joy knowing that my boys were taken care of better by someone else other than me. SOB
I have everything 25th edition so far and I will continue to buy and will customize figures until I have them all the way they once were. I bought a Flagg again, but it needs alot of help. I have a Whale which really lifts my spirits, and as long as I keep collecting things even from Ebay... I will be whole once again!!

The stupidest thing I have ever done:
Eight years ago, I got back into GI Joe collecting, and acquired some MOC Joes from the 82-86 era (my clear favorite) that were in clear, bright, utter beautiful condition. This was right before a huge price spike on these figures -- I got a MOC '85 Flint for $45 from Brian's Toys. I had about 25 or so MOC figures in all; the characters I remember include Crimson Guard, Flint, Spirit, Airtight, Airborne, Mutt, Tele-Viper, Beachhead, Dr. Mindbender, Recondo, Shipwreck, and Snow Serpent.
There were others, I just don't recall which ones -- at this point I guess I've blocked out the pain. I ended up deciding I was "too old" for the hobby after all and selling them on ebay in one lot for $850. I now daily kick myself in the ass over that. Ouch.

I have a similar story.
I collected from 1982 -1990 the original line. I had nearly every figure produced between those years. I had at least 95% of all the vehicles too, including the Rolling Thunder, Mobile Command Center and the Freaking Defiant Shuttle Complex. The only big ones I didnt have was Joe HQ, The Terror Drome or the Flagg.
Well in 1993 when I graduated High School I was dissillusioned with Comic Collecting this was during the time of 10 different covers for one freaking issue. I had also been collecting Batman Figures through High School.
I decided well I was 18 and I was a man and besides I needed money for my graduation party and all.
I sold all my comics nearly 800 of them including the entire GI Joe Series for about $300.
But it gets worse. I sold all my toys.. ALL OF THEM to a Flea Market Lady for a measly $150.00
It wasn't Three years later I was royally kicking myself over it.

I sold my collection seven years ago, needing money-over two hundred loose, generally complete and generally near mint Joes from 82-94, including several straight-arms and a gold-head Steel Brigade trooper, for about $750. I kept my comics but I didn't think I'd miss the figues. I was thirty, after all. I don't regret the loss of the actual figures, they are replacable if costly. But the memories of those originals, where I got them and who gave them to me as a child, that I sorely miss.

I'm a lucky kid I guess; I still have my entire collection and I would trade my Spytroops guys for Certain 25th and Vintage Stuff.
As for losses, I guess it could have been worse. My mom threw my USS Flagg in the trash while I was at school... >:( !!!
And so to retrieve a Memory, I am going to make a 8' Long X 4' Wide X 4' Tall Wooden GIJoe Carrier dubbed USS Vanover, with a big 92 on the deck for my Birthyear.

When I left upstate NY and moved to TX I traded all my Joes to a friend for comics and comic cards since they were easier to pack. I wish I would of kept them boxed up and took em with me.

my dad collected Joes back in the 80's and had damn near everything up til 89 (and only assorted stuff from that)
what happend? He gave it all to his eight year old son: Me, who proceeded to do what all eight year olds do- play with the toys to death.
I still wish I had the technodrome etc.
but most of all I kick myself for so freely giving away CG's as I'd had 7 of them.
now I don't have any :(

My best friend had a lot of GI Joes when we where kids... then he left them all in vehicles behind his moms van one day. We later learned she ran them over. He's been mad about that for years... then I started collecting em which seemed to salt his wounds more.
