The new card for both the Cobra Anti-Armor (Bazooka) Trooper and the Cobra (Para-Viper)Paratrooper both say that the figures are "From the G.I. Joe Comic Series!" replacing the old G.I. Joe 25th Emblem. What comics are these two characters from? What series (Marvel, Blackthorne, Dark Horse, Image, Devil's Due, Dreamwave, IDW, Hasbro)? Anyone know? Does anyone remember from past issues or have pictures? Are they in the new ones (IDW) coming out? I do not know. If you do, let us know. Are if you have any guesses.

The Bazooka troopers you could justify as some early issues had Cobra Troopers wielding rocket launchers.
But both are basically new concepts Hasbro developed to expand the scope of the line, and the comic callouts were put there largely because Hasbro had to put SOMETHING there. The callouts are largely moot because the only reason they are there is to fill the space left by removing the 25th logo. Heck, Hasbro is even shipping the Mass Device Cobra Commander on a cardback calling out the comic, even though the mass crystals included are firmly from the cartoon series.

Nothing in toys is from the IDW comic.

I kept thinking to myself: "The MASS Device was a cartoon related story, not a Marvel Comics release!" I think they just randomly slap on logos for each figure without the slightest thought of what series the logo actually relates to. It's all good. I love the figures, so this is actually pretty damn minor if you think about it. I just want to see everyone from 1982-1990 get a figure. 1991 was really the beginning of the end, and 1992 forward was just neon-colored madness. There were 1-2 exceptions to this insanity, with Navy SEAL Shipwreck and shadow-black Cobra Commander being fine additions to my collection. Last edited by Bravestarr; 10-16-2008 at 10:45 PM.. |

Somebody posted scans of the Bazooka Troopers here before. I just don't know what the title of the thread was. Search?
The Para-Viper, I have no recollection of him from anywhere whatsoever...

Someone posted pictures oddly similar to the para-vipers from early on in the marvel run. They weren't exactly the same but their were definitely similarities. I don't remember what thread I saw them in

It featured the Cobra RPG Team firing into the rear of Steeler's MOBAT during the Joe rescue of Dr. Burkhart. |
