In my "Cobra Army," the HISS tank is the main battle-horse of the Infantry, with Stingers being more the fast attack vehicles.
I own 8 HISS tanks. 2 - 1983 black HISS tanks, one with a custom Stinger rack (like the Arctic HISS) 2 - Arctic HISS tanks, one original, the other a custom with standard cannons 1 - 1989 HISS v. 2, I really like this design, but not that big triple gun. Eventually plan to customize this one. 1 - 2005 black/gold HISS really love this design too, as I like the idea of a tank and troop carrier 1 - 2011 Red POC HISS, this is probably my favorite design. I love the working treads 1- 2012 Blue Retaliation HISS that I customized onto POC working treads. I like the tank turret design to this, but man that just seems like a vulnerable position in combat. I only ever had the HISS 2, which is an excellent vehicle. I do think that three large caliber cannons on a tiny turret looks ridiculous - I would have preferred a turret similar to the HISS 1, with better protection for the gunner. Or large tank sized cannons on top (probably two) but housed inside a much bigger turret.
On the HISS 2, I really like how the cockpit lowers in front and having space for four guys in the back was an excellent feature. Aethetically speaking, I am quite liking the look of the 2005 model with all the missiles - it almost looks like it is in IG colors. Although of course it is missing guns. My own custom designed HISS is a sort of mix of the HISS 1 and 2, and that is how I imagine a HISS tank now. But I need a bigger variant too, a heavy HISS that is closer in size to the HISS 2. |

Original HISS is still my favorite, for nostalgia reasons, but the Arctic one with the Stinger's missile rack was also very cool. My only problem with the original HISS, even as a kid, was the guns didn't look very good or practical. No ammunition feed or room for a working action, so I just pretended they were laser weapons.
Of course, the cartoon made everything lasers, but the box art gives the impression of automatic cannons. |

I like so much version 5 and the Attack Scout 2012 but i still prefer the vintage one 1983. It 'a shame that Mom Hasbro did not do the same as the pre-production version that is more slender shape and in my opinion much more gritty. It would have been amazing.

I do not think it's a question of assembly, if you look at the TV ads of those years you will see that the children were handling the same Hiss of the photo. That Hiss is a badass

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it just looks to me like the treads are moved towards the rear a little. I don’t see any other difference

You're right, there's no other difference. It 'a small detail is true, but to me the pre-production version like to go crazy with this shape.
