BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA *takes breath* AAAAHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
You CAN'T be serious, right? If you are, you are living in fantasy land. GI joe supports a measely 7 SKUs (singles, comics, vehicles, DVD packs, Combat heroes, Mighty Muggs, 12"), not counting the handful of exclusives, and it is debatable how long Mighty Muggs will run. Transformers Universe alone supports 6 SKUs (Legends, Robot Heroes, Mighty Muggs, Deluxe, Voyager, Ultra), and Transformers Animated supports 8 SKUs (Activators, Cyber Slammers, deluxe, Voyager, Entertainment, Powerbots, Leader, Supreme). As a brand, that's double the number of SKUs offered in GI Joe. And Star Wars? Including Clone Wars, Star Wars has a whopping 16 SKUs (Saga Legends, Clone Basic, Legacy, Comic packs, Titanium, Galactic Heroes, Basic Lightsabers, deluxe Lightsabers, Unleashed, Crossovers, Battlepacks, Evolution, Vehicles, Roleplay Blasters, AT TE, Millenium Falcon). And that doesn't count the immense number of exclusives produced for the line. The 25th line has brought more attention to Joe than any previous effort, I'll grant that. But to say that is the best selling in the aisles right now? Not a chance. Keep in mind it is a fine line between a line that moves slowly, and a line that is restocked frequently. In my area, this is about 7 Targets, 5 Walmarts, 4 KMarts and various other places like Meijers, etc, Joe outsells EVERY one of the items I mentioned. There are still plenty of Day 1 Star Wars figures on shelves at all my local stores. Wanna take a guess how many BATs there are? I'm not suggesting that GI Joe is a more powerful brand than Transformers or DC or Star Wars or even Marvel... I am suggesting however that it's one of the most powerful lines in Boys Toys right now and the proof is in the pudding. Some people in this thread and on this site are going on as if GI Joe is somehow not selling, and that's not true. 25th Joe is easily in the top 5 sellers of Boys Toys in the current marketplace. Denying that is just lunacy. |

This is easily one of the most successful toy lines in Boys toys. If you think anything other, you're simply wrong.
This line sells better than IJ, SW, TMNT, IM, ML, HM, BM and better than DCUC although that's only cause like 1 case of DCUC ships per month. There isn't a line in the boys toys section that moves faster than 25th GI Joe right now that I know of. It's why Joe has SO many SKUs including multiple vehicles and exclusives. Sab |

Recondo, Ripcord, Covergirl, and Mindbender are at the top of everyone's most-wanted. Sure wouldn't mind many others, though, such as Techno-Viper, Cobra-La Guard, Pythona, Crazylegs, Footloose, a corrected Leatherneck, Iceberg, Wetsuit, Airtight, etc.. Only ones I could do without are Darklon, Nullifier, Skidmark, Windchill, Dogfight, and Armadillo because I already will have customs with file cards for those figures by the best customizer on this board.

Didn't hasbro re-relase all of the orignal Star Wars figures back in 97-98 prior to the launch of Episode 1? They made a handful of that remade line where they were on their old cards with new style figures? That line ended right as the movie came out after like 1-2 years if I recall, been a while I may be wrong.

Not sure when those A's to the Q's will be posted, but I don't think Destro could give us any clues if he wanted to. Probably has to wait for a certain date before he is allowed to release that info to the rest of us. I hope this group has more definitive answers than previous ones where we've had a lot of "We're looking into..." or "We'll have to see..." types of responses. Although the hiatus will surely come before we get all the characters we want, I'll be welcoming the break. I'll be able to start saving some of my money again and maybe get a few Transformers I want to feed my plastic crack addiction during this period. I can understand Hasbro not wanting to sell two different lines which in essence would be competing with themselves, but they would be crazy not to return to the classic styled characters in the Modern Era line after the movie figs run their course. It's a smart business move for Hasbro to hold back some characters until then so those of us who only want this line will have a reason to resume collecting when it comes back. |

Take Recondo for instance. He's at the top of my list. Let's say Hasbro doesn't make him and all of a sudden we're at the movie line of figures. I'm not interested in them and neither are many, many more. What if, in an unperfect world, sales BOMB on the movie line and Hasbro has decided to lay joe for a rest temporarily? (factoring in today's economy and taking half a year of poor sales--remember this is all hypothetical) No Recondo for me and no profit for Hasbro. Everybody looses. And that is what many people are mad about. Why diddle daddle with a movie line and not the modern line which is a huge sucess. (remember these were only supposed to be a handful of figures 16 months ago) Now, yes, I know, the movie is coming, Hasbro want's to reach out to a LARGER audience and fan base, which is always a risky move--period. The modern era line is established and has a secure base of nostalgic fans. Why not make one wave of movie figures and vehicles, then switch back to the modern era line. Kids will see these other characters, wonder who they are since they weren't in the movie and that may prick their interest. So, that is a smart move, yet it would be a risky one at that, although what moves aren't risky when running a corporation? However, I'm thinking if Destro ain't pullin' our legs, we're about to see the floodgates open. Sab |
