Thank God.
I need a damn break. $60 per wave, $30-60 per vehicle wave, TRU exclusives, special sets (Arctic/Desert), DVD packs, etc. My damn "gotta get 'em all" mentality is killing me here. (I missed so much of the original line (and lost/broke way too much) that I can't stand the thought of having to buy these on eBay at $30 a pop in the future) It's weird, I've collected Transformers for a few years now, and there's always a few in a line I can pass on, but this GI Joe 25th line is like crack. I just gotta have it. All of it. This is Plastic Crack 4 real

For all the chest thumping from collectors earlier this year about "not having enough product, Hasbro needs to make more, etc", well, Hasbro HAS made more. Turns out there is not as much market as many collectors thought there was. These revisions were produced in DIRECT response to the constant sell out earlier in the year (from both collectors and retailers)

This is easily one of the most successful toy lines in Boys toys. If you think anything other, you're simply wrong.
This line sells better than IJ, SW, TMNT, IM, ML, HM, BM and better than DCUC although that's only cause like 1 case of DCUC ships per month. There isn't a line in the boys toys section that moves faster than 25th GI Joe right now that I know of. It's why Joe has SO many SKUs including multiple vehicles and exclusives. |

If Hasbro's plan is that the Movie will sell tons of units to Kids they may be mistaken. Most Moms and Dads will be reluctant to drop $8.00 for 1 small plastic figure.
Value -Wise, Most Parents will see it as "A Rip Off". We pay that price because we are (Working) adults reclaiming part of our childhood. If the movie figures don't move big units its anyone's guess what will happen next. MOVIES SELL TOYS BIG TIME! A Green Friend of mine named Bruce Banner disagrees. He said he will live his afterlife in the clearance section after his life as a peg warmer has run its course. PS- IRON MAN was a HUGE HIT at the Box office but since the movie was released he has also been warming pegs everywhere I go. No offense to JOE but I do not see the Movie being even close to Iron Man's Success.

how much are Spiderman toys, which sell like hot cakes to kids and I believe was the second best selling boys toy for Hasbro in 2007? I think they are around $8 aren't they. you have zero basis for your argument that parents won't buy their children an $8 toy. would you care to restate it? I'm sure Hasbro would love to replicate those sale numbers with G.I. Joe. perhaps there were other factors plaguing the Hulk toys, like a lack of interest in the Hulk brand, not simply because it was a movie toy.
I said MOST parents. And its because they could buy thier kid something bigger and better for the money. I did not say that Movie Toys Dont sell. A Movie is just not the 100% Reliable Sales Vehicle that some people think it is. Spiderman sells wether he has a movie out or not. SPIDERMAN is more than a Movie. He is a classic character who was reintroduced to modern audiences almost 10 years ago. The last Spiderman Movie was a few years ago but you will still see tons of kids as Spiderman EVERY Holloween because Kids Love him and parents who grew up liking him like that thier kids Love him. Even with all that, Toybiz and then Habro have released TONS of Spiderman product that DID NOT MOVE Units. They just discontinued those lines and shifted gears to other spidey products because SPIDERMAN is a True Franchise. I Hope the Joe Movie does well. I am not "complaining" or "whining" about no 25th/modern toys during the movie line. I was just trying to have an adult discussion with other adults. Between my family, my carreer and my other hobbies, I will have plenty to keep me busy if the "modern" line ended today never to return. Try not to take things too seriously. Do You really think that these "Faux Joes" in the movie will have the lasting effect on pop culture that Spiderman has? I SAY NO WAY. (I'm Leaving Work in the next 20 minutes so if I dont resond its because I went home to my Wife and son but I will reply next week if I dont forget about this but I probibly will. LOL)

You CAN'T be serious, right? If you are, you are living in fantasy land. GI joe supports a measely 7 SKUs (singles, comics, vehicles, DVD packs, Combat heroes, Mighty Muggs, 12"), not counting the handful of exclusives, and it is debatable how long Mighty Muggs will run. Transformers Universe alone supports 6 SKUs (Legends, Robot Heroes, Mighty Muggs, Deluxe, Voyager, Ultra), and Transformers Animated supports 8 SKUs (Activators, Cyber Slammers, deluxe, Voyager, Entertainment, Powerbots, Leader, Supreme). As a brand, that's double the number of SKUs offered in GI Joe. And Star Wars? Including Clone Wars, Star Wars has a whopping 16 SKUs (Saga Legends, Clone Basic, Legacy, Comic packs, Titanium, Galactic Heroes, Basic Lightsabers, deluxe Lightsabers, Unleashed, Crossovers, Battlepacks, Evolution, Vehicles, Roleplay Blasters, AT TE, Millenium Falcon). And that doesn't count the immense number of exclusives produced for the line. The 25th line has brought more attention to Joe than any previous effort, I'll grant that. But to say that is the best selling in the aisles right now? Not a chance. Keep in mind it is a fine line between a line that moves slowly, and a line that is restocked frequently.

see the problem is nowadays alot of parents don't want their kids to be involved with war toys or anything such and GI JOE quite clearly is a war based toy. you may say oh well what about Star wars? well star wars, while the word war is in the title and there is conflict in the series, is quite clearly a fantasy and not nearly based on a more realistic scenario as GI JOE WAS based. So while some think this is a, and i use this term loosely, "smart" move by hasbro and applaud them for making classic characters look movized, there are an equal if not more so number of people who think this is a truly stupid and moronic move by hasbro in a vain attempt to get us to like this version of gi joe because they know that if given the choice, consumers who buy gi joe would rather have the more classic looking characters then these fagtacular looking powersuit sigma six styled joes. I didnt like it as sigma sux and i don't like it now and i now many a person who feel this same way.

I don't think you have any basis to even say "most" parents. I'm sure "some" don't, but clearly the sales of many an $8 toy dispute your position that most, as in the majority, do not, and it is clearly the minority, or some, that refuse to. considering the backbone of your post was dependent on the flawed concept that the majority of parents do not, your post was flawed, which i why I asked if you would like to restate it. |
