Relevance and a sure fire way to get an item in the clerance bin...make a star wars line of figures and vehciles and overly price the large lump of plastic MF...
I only can hope Walmart will resell all those Aluminium falcons back to Hasbro to put in the great smelter in the sky to pour fresh recycled starwars garbage into a fresh clean Skystriker! The hottest toy license this year? GI JOE. what do they plan on doing with it? Kill it and mass produce the movie line which is going to be just like every other movie toy line of the past 5-6 years, crap. Ever shake up an Ant farm and watch them run around, bumping into each other in a daze? That's what a Hasbro toy design meeting is like when they find out they have a hot toy line on their hands. |

It took them 30 years to FINALLY remake the most iconic Star Wars vehicle of all time. What does THAT tell you about the people who run things at Hasbro?

Ever shake up an Ant farm and watch them run around, bumping into each other in a daze? That's what a Hasbro toy design meeting is like when they find out they have a hot toy line on their hands. Hasbro was riding a wave in the 1980s with GI Joe. The Defiant being the crest of that wave. Yes, things began to cool down as we approached the 1990s, but what in the heck were they thinking by introducing neon pink and neon orange into the uniform colors and weapon systems? GI Joe Extreme was even worse, and the SGT Savage and his Screaming Eagles line failed miserably also. I really like the cartoon from SGT Savage, but I HATE, and I mean HATE the flimsy legs on those action figures. They are what ruined the entire line for me. Valor Vs. Venom never appealed to me because of those strange fore-arm and hand features on the figures. It's like the toys were truly designed for destructive people who "play" by throwing their toys into the walls and doors. Valor Vs. Venom reminds me of the post 1986 Transformers: Too blocky and detail-free for my tastes. I fear the Movie Line will go back to the Valor Vs. Venom molds. Blocky figures with blocky hands and forearms. I also sense an over-use of the powersuits. Honestly, I suspect it's going to be a blend of GI Joe Extreme, Sigma Six and Valor Vs. Venom. I could be wrong, so we shall see. |

Well, if the smaller planes and vehicles sell well. And the BMF and AT-TE sell well this holiday we may see something large for the Joe line. Pity Stephen Hassenfeld is no longer alive, we would probably have a SkyStriker, Night Raven and Terrordrome either on the shelves.

I would definitely pay $50 for a Skystriker, though the more likely figure in my opinion is between $30-40. Really, I think the $50 estimate is a bit of an exaggeration, the mold itself was simple, not very complex, and really not that big.

New engines! What was with the weird bell curve things?

they see it as a waste of resources to remake an obsolete jet into a toy.
The Skystriker itself is not obsolete. Yes it would be risky to sell, but it is iconic. Hasbro knows the X-wing is iconic, and that the new mold X-wing which came out in recent years is popular, but since it is risky at retail, it is only sold as an exclusive every few years(2x as Luke's dagobah version in different paint schemes, and once as Red Leader's). A lot of people complain about the lack of their favorite RAH characters in the modern era/anniversary line. Well what if they were made, but Hasbro says, "hey, you know what? This guy wore this costume in the 80's, let's dress him up with some new, modernized stuff". A lot of people would be pissed asking why we get a Snake Eyes variant, this time around wearing white, or Chuckles, in a uniform worn by the original 13, only with digital camo. Basically we want to see modern toys of characters/vehicles we grew up with. Same reason people only wanted specific versions of Duke, Snake Eyes, et al. I don't mind seeing a YF-23 Skystriker, since the joes use it in Resolute, but making a F-22 toy and calling it a Skystriker will not cut it for us. Even if we get the 23, we still want a classic version too. It's like Star Wars, you have the E-wing, which succeeded the X-wing, what if Hasbro made a vehicle line focusing on the original trilogy, and instead of the X-wing, they shove the E-wing in instead and said the X-wing was obsolete? Same premise. You can't beat a classic, can't beat an icon. |

A little off topic but I got a shark the other day. I was very pleased with its sticker set. Unlike my rattler this stuck and they where thiner. Lets pray hasbro keep using ones like these and hasbro if your reading this I would gladly pay 10 bucks for a set of sticker redone like this for my rattler

Personally, I myself would want it to look like the original vintage Skystriker.
No black paint on the fins, or anything like that. Consider me a G1 purist. I agree about the shit quality stickers that came with the new reissued jets. Those need to be changed on all future re-releases. Better quality stickers is a must. I don't care too much about what they do with the Ace figure. It was all about the jet for me, and not so much the figure. The thing must include a Parachute like the original. Don't get me wrong I love that custom Skystriker pic that was posted, but like I said.....G1 purist. |
