4 engines on a wing are a non issue. They wing spar can be strong enough to support them. The V-tail makes plenty of aerodynamic sense. Even on a jet, just ask the french.
Now it would make less sense if these are high thrust engines, I dont think a v tail can give you the lateral stability needed if you loose engines on one side. If it isn't meant to be a 'go fast' airplane then the v tails aerodynamic benefits are null and void. I dont think the overwing missles are any real issue either. But put a message out to my Jaguar pilot friend and will post the reply when I get it. As to the toy. It kind of looks neat. But I am a bit disappointed. Looks like this is the toy version of the transport plane from the trailer. If that is the case, then it has been scaled down so drasticaly as to look silly. I don't mind buying silly looking aircraft at Corps like prices, so if the price is right I'll get this. But I doubt that will be the case.

But I doubt that will be the case. I agree that in the movie it all kind of works - it looks like a modern B-24. It even has a 5th engine - but the plane is really massive. To conclude, as a toy, it should have been a transport. That's its purpose in the movie. As a jet fighter, it looks stupid. As an adult looking at it, it seems implausible or certainly not worth the effort to make it work. The colors, the massive engines, the vague comparison to the movie jet, it all seems to fail. In closing, I love GI Joe jets and vehicles in general. Some I won't touch - such as the Thunderwing which is inferior to True Heroes F-22 - and others make me scratch my head like the Condor (works until you break it apart) or the Hurricane (huge and fascinating toy). Others are just brilliant. But the Ghost Hawk II is more like a Corps jet. It doesn't fit in with GI Joe. I am glad I have the True Heroes transport that will fill in this role that the toy should have.

Two things, I think they are trying to make it an updated Howler from RoC - very fast transport - but then they threw in the missiles and guns. The four engines are massive for a plane of this size - it would be forgivable if they just pulled the engines from another toy but it seems some designer thought big engines equals fast. Sure you could design a wing to be stable for the engines, but I imagine the thrust would be monstrous for a jet this size. Now, add the weight of the missiles and the loss of control surfaces on the front of the wings - something most modern jets rely - due to the missiles AND engines, and you have a virtually uncontrolable beast. The Jaguar had missiles OCCASSIONALLY on the top - it even looked like an afterthought - but it was primarily a ground attack jet. The A-10 had something similar with Sidewinders tacked onto the ends of its wings. Most Warthog pilots I've met never used them - it was more PR or to see if it would work. I agree about the V-tail. It kind of works but what purpose does it serve.

Here is hoping kids dig it.

Oh hell no man, too small! I would rather have the Ghost HAWK II but with subdued colors. Too bright.

As to over wing engines. See AN-72, BE-200 and VFW-Fokker 614.
