I have 3 vehicles on my list that I haven't bought yet.
And these vehicles have not been re-released into the 25th line. Currently have ZERO of the 25th line and haven't really planned on buying any... but looking at the new vehicles coming out, they look like they came from the same, or similar mold with additional details. Would you just buy the 3 vehicles now (to complete your original 80's collection), or wait and buy the 25th which would be close enough? |

It would help if you post what 3 vehicles you are talking about. If the 3 you are looking for include the mauler or skystriker than you better just buy an original because those molds are lost. Also, the 25th vehicles are modified to fit the new figures so the pegs are not going to work for your ARAH figures.

it depends on whether your interest is completing your vintage collection. if you do want to complete your vintage collection, buying 25th reissues won't do that, even if the vehicle is the same. for a RAH collection, you need actual RAH releases.

Molds can get lost when shipped to China to be produced. For the most part I believe the tooling is done in the US and then shipped to China. When in China, the tooling may get moved from factory to factory without Hasbro knowing. It isn't like Hasbro has it's own personal factory. There are plastics factories that just take on the jobs. They may prefer one over another.
But as it happens, (like the Palisades reissue of the Micronauts in 2002) Sometimes these factories over book themselves and will sub contract out the work. And records of that may not be kept because they don't want it to be known that it was sub contracted. And if Hasbro doesn't come calling for the mold/tooling and there is no record of this being sent to another factory for production... well, there is the missing link in the chain and the mold goes missing. |

The Sky Hawk and the Water Moccasin are examples of molds having been lost and that Hasbro rebuilt. This was recently revealed in a Q and A. There was some info that came out of the Toys R Us system on Cool Toy Review that mentioned the Mauler was going to be a store exclusive at some point too. So Hasbro won't shy away from fixing a mold as long as they can justify the expense and, obviously, make a profit.

My original Moccasin (one of my all time favorites) fell victim to brittle plastic disease... I retrieved it from my parents attic and noticed that the fan and it's housing would break if you touched it. So it is in quite a few pieces now. I'm really glad that a new one is in the works.
