Nostalgia isn't the only factor here. Personally I try to keep a subjective, contextual outlook. Fact is, there has been a lot of progress in toy design, sculpting, etc over the past 20 years, so is it fair to compare such things? Sure, if you're just talking about a personal preference, but to say it's a "better toyline" simply because of that, well I don't know.
Fact is, repaints were the exception to the rule back then - nowadays, it seems like it's the other way around. So yeah, for what it was, a lot more effort seemed to be put in the GI Joe line back then. It shows with the amount of unique figures and vehicles that were put out.
Another point - does the 25th line fully take advantage of the advances in toy design over the past 20 years? Many figures have multiple points of articulation, but are flawed, so the articulation doesn't work properly. Duke arms (not to mention a few others) don't bend at enough of an angle to pose him holding a rifle any better than a RAH figure, despite the extra points of articulation. This is an all too common occurrence. Multiple figures don't have the same articulation as others, like Roadblock, Lady Jaye, Destro and Bazooka. Why? Aside from the obvious exception of Deep Six, this didn't happen back in the RAH days either.
Aesthetics is a valid issue, and I will fully admit that most of the new figures look very nice. Others, not so much... Most notably when the design strays from the original RAH look (ie: Serpentor, Zartan, Major Bludd), which again says a lot about the original line. Of course, aesthetics is in the eye of the beholder, but it's still something that should be brought up.

I voted 25th. While I grew up with RAH in the 80's, and loved the toys by the way, they were great until 25th line came out. I NEVER even collected joes, only Transformers. When I got wind of the 25th ann figures and vehicles I was estatic. All the classic vehicles and figures I remember but with better detail and articulation, sold on the cards of old. The RAH toys look so boring and dull now, greatly misporportioned with huge heads and limited articulation. I will always have love for the originals but the new ones blow them away, sorry.

I have tons of the 25th figures, and while I love being able to purchase them in stores and I do like the improved articulation, my favorite is still the vintage toys. They didn't have nearly as many re-used parts and had 1-2 (sometimes 3) version of a character, instead of 15 like you see with CC, Duke, and SE.
One other thing I do like about the 25th line is we are seeing characters based of the cartoon and comic that were not produced back in the 80's or 90's (or are in a more accurate depiction).
I've been building my vintage collection for 7-8 years now and continue to do so. I have spent way too much money on the new 25th stuff, but I view that more as a side project, when my real love is the old toys.

I honestly I have to say 25th/Modern Era.
I had just had all my original joes packed away for so many years, till I saw this new line.
The new line brought me back and I am greatfull for everything.

As much as I love the old line from my childhood, the new line is just a better version of it and thus earned my vote.

I voted classic for several reasons:
2. 1982....My first Joes.
3. Just so many more figures.
Although I really like the detail and design of the 25th figures better, I don't think they will hold up as well with constant play like the figures I still have from 1982. Two words - Duke Hands. Time will tell.
