I've always been a star wars fan, but the articulation on their toys is lousy. I read on another board that in 2009, there is going to be a 20 pt articulated clone trooper for the new Clone Wars line. Has anyone heard of this? I'm hoping it has articulation similar to the 25th Joes or maybe even the new Marvel 3 3/4 line.

that would be cool-i know they have played around alot with the articulation of star wars figures and never really settled on anything properly-for example my saga bespin luke has really good articulation but alot of the figures from the same line dont

The Clone Wars clones are already at 24 points as is the Legacy Commander Gree

How do you count the articulation. When I look at even the newest figures, I count 12-14 points at the most.
I just hope they do something about the lower leg/waist/groin articulation. |

Yeah some people count the articulation differently. For instance, they'll count a ball joint as one point, but I think that's incorrect because there are figures with shoulders that merely swivel, so it should be 1 point for a swivel and 2 points for a ball joint.
So Commander Gree would have 27 points of articulation: ball-joint neck = 2, ball-joint torso = 2, two ball-joint shoulders = 4, two ball-joint elbows = 4, two ball-joint hips = 4, two ball-joint knees = 4, two ball-joint ankles = 4, right swivel wrist = 1, left ball-joint wrist = 2. And a figure like the VOTC Lando would have 21 points: ball-joint neck = 2, swivel waist = 1, two ball-joint shoulders = 4, two swivel elbows = 2, two swivel wrists = 2, two swivel hips = 2, two ball-joint knees = 4, two ball-joint ankles = 4. However, rebelscum.com counts 14 points of articulation because they count a ball-joint as 1, which doesn't make sense, because a ball-joint provides more movement and articulation than a swivel joint. But of course some figures have less articulation due to their mechanical stature, like VOTC R2-D2, who can only have 5 points: swivel dome = 1, two swivel shoulders = 2, two swivel ankles = 2. But this low articulation count obviously doesn't make him a poor figure when compared to a POTF Weequay with only 5 points (swivel head = 1, two swivel shoulders = 2, two swivel hips = 2).

I actually like the articulation of the clones and the fact that the joints don't quite loosen the way vintage joes did over time. Sometimes I think the articulation is pointless, however, because figures like the new Death Star Trooper have ball-joint knees, yet they can't sit down because of their tunics. And sometimes the articuation seems overkill. I wouldn't care if the wrists didn't swivel, because as long as the forearms do you can pretty much pose their arms to hold any weapon. And the ankles? I rarely flex them unless of course it's Shipwreck standing on tiptoes to peer over a hedge while Gung-Ho mows his lawn. Silly Seamen!

I might get flamed for this but...
I finally opened a couple doubles I had of the 25th joes...And I think the majority of their articulation kinda sucks. In the package they look amazing...out of the package I was a bit let down. |

If 25th joes could only sit better, they'd be near perfect.

sit better...move their arms better. move at their waists.
Hawk and Bazooka cant even come close to making a 90 degree angle at the elbows. I also feel like some joints (knees, ankles, elbows) are too tight Where on some the chest is too loose. And while the added chest back mobility is nice, the loss of waist mobility is terrible. |
