Seriously? So it's too much to expect someone to..I dont know...do their JOB..what they are paid to do? So, If I pay someone to build me a house and the crew lays around and shirks for several months and I ask, "My family and I are looking forward to moving into our new home, when will it be completed?" that makes me someone with a God complex? Not someone who has paid for a service? I can understand if someone is calling and annoying someone weeks on end. But that employee, should they feel "stalked" or perhaps annoyed and harrassed should pass it on to their manager and let them handle the situation. Not be unprofessional by lying or giggling when they think no one is of the wiser. And I've heard and seen this happen on the FIRST occasion. This is why customer service is dead in America. Me, myself and I. This responsibibility falls to the employee whether they work at Target, Walmart, Sears or even Jacks Chinese food and beer shop. Even the companies themselves will tell you it's their policy. You're there to help consumers/customers and to make a profit for your company. When people do this and are caught, they are either fired or reprimanded and the company looses money. And that is why you are underpaid or feel like your overworked. Seriously, like it was already said. Don't like it, quit. Find another job. There are plenty of worse jobs out there. Just because you feel like your overworked and underpaid by your employer, don't pass it along to the consumer. Sab |

very true sir. In fact, I worked at target less than a year ago, and i was the backroom guy. The customer service operators dont usually have a pda to check stock. they pass it on to us. And our manager had some very anti collector rules.
no stocking hot wheels during the day, no pulling toys for customers. no holding items that were in demand or collectable I never followed the rules but hey they were there lol. and yeah, the idea is that a person should do their job. but customers seem to get this "god" persona alot of times. They dont realize that the regular employee doesnt give a rats ass if the customer is happy or satisfied. In fact, if they dont come back, even better! it ruins the store managers yearly bonus (dependant on store performance) and its one less person an employee has to deal with on their shift. Most people at retail, that is their goal. To minimize the amount of customers they have to deal with. That was why i loved backroom. no customers to deal with, and first pick at toys when they arrived. I did make it my mission to help kids find a toy they were looking for though. any others who worked retail, know what im talking about? |

The Targets were I live are all very helpful. They hold stuff for me all the time because I live an hour away. It is Wal-mart and Toys R Us that i have a problem with.

man, working retail sucks. working the maximum and making the minimum.
I ran a video game store for a few years, and i lied to costumers all the time. if you got on my nerves, i'd lie. if you were stupid, i'd lie. if you didn't give me time to finish my coffee before asking me a ton of questions, I'd lie. Nothing in that business bothered me more than some fanboy that HAD to get that one game and nine in the morning. I'd pretty much say anything to get you out of my store with not having to do any actual work. Y'see...i get that you want the jet, and it's a pain in the ass to run to the store every morning, I really do. I wan't one too, I get it, i'm a collector. but, from the other side, the woman you talked too, she doesn't care wether you get one or not. if they're in, well, they're going to sell. Someone is going to buy it. and she's not going to make a cent off it. she gets paid one way or the other. So why would she make more work for herself? all and all, and don't take any offence, but to her, you're just one more grown up man child bugging her with incessant phone calls about a toy she doesn't know exists or care about. See, I sucked at retail. Hated it. the only part i did like was being able to belittle and screw with customers. working in a store is a 9 hour shift of hell. Ya need to come up with ways to keep yourself entertained.

However, honestly this may make me sound terrible but I don't really like pan-handlers in front of stores, I donate plenty of money per year, plus tons of clothing to the SA, if I want to donate I know how to get in touch with them, I don't need to be brow beated into it.

Like they are better than the employee and should be treated as royalty! and paying someone for a service is much different than bugging someone because they work there. you didnt pay for their service, you pay for the product at the store. And unfortunetly for all of you who think you should be treated as kings, im pretty much right on how retail employees think and work. |

Say I have whatever little complex you like. The fact won’t change that I go to the store, that serves me best. Target has poor customer service, and employees with a REAL attitude. People (should) work for their money. From all the Target employees I’ve dealt with, they don’t deserve what they get. And whoever is hiring these folks who aren’t caring for their jobs is clearly mismanaging things. Meaning Target as a whole doesn’t need my money. I go to stores that do better, heck, even K-mart is better, and that’s not saying much. |

God complex? Customer service means exactly that, serve the customer. Stores I go to ask me if I need help finding anything before I even ask, that's they're job, regardless if they are happy with it or not. If I come to spend the money I have worked hard for in your store you better beleive I expect some courtesy.

Just so I'm clear on my last post, there is nothing wrong with getting upset with a customer who is annoying or bullying you around. HOW you handle it is where professionalism comes in...Two wrongs don't make a right, etc... To anyone who works in retail, it's not worth getting mad at someone and losing your job. Take it up with your manager or the next up the ladder. Eventually you will blow off steam on the wrong customer and whether or not you are fired, that customer will not give your employer their business. (ever heard the saying, do something right, the customers tells 2 people..Do something wrong and the customer tell EVERYONE they know). So the customer leaves and takes their business elsewhere. No big deal right? Wrong. Your company looses business, therefore losing profit and there goes your annual raise. And there goes more employees hired to work the floor and make your job eaiser. And that is why you feel like it's not your job to help someone because you are underpaid or overworked. No one wins being selfish and thinking that they are not paid to do something, or they already work too hard and the company loses a profit. I hear you on the trucks. They are very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. For 7 years, I worked 6 days a week 12 hours a day loading and unloading trucks with a lift. Several times, product was spilled out and or broken. Plenty of times we wanted to say, to Hell with it. Send it back and let them fix their mess up and too bad for the customer they will have to wait for their purchased product. But no, that makes us wrong. We bit our tongues and fixed the goof up, spending hours in a 130 degree tractor trailer fixing someone else's mess up, so the paying customer got their product in a timely fashion as was promised. It's not easy swallowing your pride or biting your tongue. No one is saying it is. But it does no good to make the problem worse than it already is. Sab |
