Well here's my review..
I too was diappointed in the quality of the plastic used as well as just the over all playability. Not saying I play with them, but we all used to be kids once and I hated it when my original Conquest landing gear wouldn't stay up anymore.. or when the rattlers landing gear on the wings would break or the gun canopy would break..
Since I have gotten mine..
Rattler: Wild Weasel barely fits in the cockpit of the Rattler.. the cluster bombs on one side keep falling off even though it's just sitting on the shelf. The landing gear isn't as stiff as the original, so where I don't feel like it's going to snap when I put it down, it just doesn't feel sturdy.
Slipstream.. Tripwire head, WW body and arms.. Ace Legs.. Hmm.. looked cooler in the pics. Now for the jet.. since he has a huge noggin.. unless you scrunch him into the plane the canopy won't close. I love that they tinted the canopy, but again the plastic feels flimsy.. The rear landing gear.. can't get the tires to spread apart completely. But I don't have the same wobble problem as Gatchaman...
Both are very cool, but the overall feel reminds me of the plastic they used when they tried to bring the 80's toy line back in the early 2000's. I'm sure everyone remembers those lovely rubber steaming piles of.. well you get the picture.. if not.. then look up the Stars and Stripes set.. LOL
I am glad we are getting vehicles of old, but these exclusives either need to be made to the same quality as the regular release stuff or just mass retailed instead of making everyone patiently wait only to be disappointed when they finally get it. Oh.. and the stickers really do suck. The earlier exclusives had better stickers than these things..
Oh and why did they bother putting pics of vehicles they don't plan to make inside the box art? Flagg...Skystriker.. Night Raven? Heck the Whale and Hydrofoil are also pictured. I can possibly see the Hydrofoil though since we know they have those molds. Don't expect to see a Whale or Night
I just hope that instead of just rereleasing some stuff from the Joe vs Cobra line they would actually take time to retool at least the cockpit areas of the new releases. Hell they have totally remodeled the Vamp, Ram, Water Moccasin, and Sky Hawk. So how hard could it be to just remodel the cockpit to better fit the 25th.. Thankfully the hiss can pretty much accomodate anyone.
Looking for one Danger at the Docks Exc.

I have to say, I'm a little disapointed for the same reasons stated and especially because I spent so much money. However, the good greatly overshadows the bad. I don't regret buying them and I feel lucky to have them, but mostly I'm happy because they are a blast to play with! lol

If you think the 'good stuff' ended in '85 then you're setting yourself up for a LOT of disappointment when it comes to GI JOE.

These, IMO, are much better than the vintage counterparts.
Why, cause they addressed the problems and fixed them.
Landing gear on the Rattler was so horrible, finding a vintage one that did not say "gear broken" was a plus. Hell, most of the ones I've had or seen had stress marks on it just waiting for one more time to click and then break.
The gun canopy was flawed with the little pegs that snapped just looking at it. Rattlers of old probably kept scotch tape in business.
The wings were also a PITA. Sometimes they both turned, sometimes one would catch and crack it.
The Conquest, although was not up to par with the skystriker, was a decent plane of the day. However, the landing gear was horrible. They NEVER stayed down. I have a vintage one on my Flagg, and just about every other day, I have to adjust the gear again as it continues to sink down.
I will say this, Hasbro has a problem with landing gear in general. Star Wars vehicles are notorious for landing gear malfunctions.
In general I think the plastic is better as it is made to be flexible and not as fragile as the vintage ones. Vintage ones seem to dry out and become brittle with age. I have and had many Joe vehicles that just seem to crack whenever handle roughly or sometimes, at all.
It may be due to the fact smoking was wider spread and more tolerable causing the plastic to absorb it, or whatnot.
I remember a Hasbro panel awhile back that stated back in the 70's-80's, toys were made to play with, not collect. this is why plastic yellows in the bubble, grows fungus, deteriorates, etc.
Back to the topic though, I think these are perfect for us collectors today.
And when you get yours, be sure to hold it up and say "I GOT IT!" with a big ol grin.

It's funny but I kinda felt the same way when I got the VAMP and AWE. I thought: these seem awfully small, and lighter than I remember. The plastic even felt different. But I'm thoroughly pleased with the Rattler--and I never had one as a kid. The Conquest, though I got one, was never intriquing because I just don't like that jet. An F-18 would have been a better choice.
The skystriker is probably the most realistic-looking Joe jet, although I never liked the white, while the rattler, night raven and sky sweeper are closely related to the A-10, SR-71 and F-117. These four are probably the best to date.
The move toward futuristic sci-fi planes was a real downturn in the quality and aesthetic appeal for me. I especially hated Battleforce 2000 stuff. And though the Thunderwing and Ghoststriker were steps in the right direction toward making cool realistic jets like the F-22 and F-16, they ultimately fall short with their fat, stubby airframes and fluorescent-colored ordnance and gear.

my jets don't have any of the problems mentioned. the plastic is fine, the Conquest's and Rattler's landing gear work great and are sturdy (much sturdier than the TRU versions from a few years ago), the decals are outstanding and are made from material far superior to the decals for the small vehicles -- they actually stay on, the missiles stay on the wings fine (unlike past versions), and the cockpits are fine. it seems Hasbro has actually corrected many of the flaws of past releases.
yes, my Slipstream's helmet doesn't come off either, but that isn't an issue for me.

Joe toys will always have a unique style and don't compare well to more detailed stuff like BBI's F-18. But if Hasbro did start making molds like this one, they would dominate the military toy market. I'm hoping 21st century toys start making modern jets like the F-15, F-16 and F18 to complement the current F-104 and F-86, which are really well done, but a little too old for Joe technology.

You guys sure you don't think the Rattler is too small b/c you remember the Sky Striker being so BIG compared to it?
I remember as a kid thinking that the '85 Rattler was small too, but again I also had a Sky Striker at the time too, and that was why.
Personally I think it's a combo of a bunch of things, 1. The 25 figures are taller, 2. WE are now bigger too things may seem "smaller" to us now more than we remember them, and 3. It's been 25 years
That said, I have not seen either jet yet, but I know the HISS tanks are dead on, and I know my 25th VAMP matches all three of my VAMP, VAMP mk 2, and Stinger. As a matter of fact, I was VERY impressed with the 25th update both the VAMP and Clutch got - my favorite of the 25th line so far.
"Oh dear" said Pooh, as he punched the magazine release...

Can't please everyone.
I was lucky enough to find 2 Rattlers and 2 conquest. Got em both. There both BAD ASS.
Also I have a 03 Toys R Us conquest. I swapped the yellow missles and yellow engine cowlings on the 25th for the black 03 ones. Much better looking!
All work and NO play make Jack a dull boy.......
