I love the 25th representation of classic characters and vehicles from 82-91. I'll keep buying until it is only repaints, then I'm out. I don't buy any repaints unless they are from 82-91 figures or cartoon. September/October is going to be expensive, though.

I loved (and still do) the vintage stuff; but the 25th line really reeled me in; hook, line, and sinker. I would love to not feel the way I do about collecting toys as a 32 year old, but seeing these figures again brought back all the joy that they brought me as a little kid. I don't know if it's a sickness or what, but I love to collect these again, and I love the way my 3 year old son comes up to me when I get home from work and asks me if I got "any new guys." I won't be quitting any time soon; besides, I am looking forward to the Rattler more than any other vehicle that has been or will be released. In addition, I can't give up my vintage stuff either because of the fond memories that they rekindle.

I am sticking around for the long haul.
I am very interested in Resolute & the figures that will come from that, as well as seeing were the '09 Movie line goes. But I have talked to some collectors that are pals of mine that are now being more selective & coming close to calling it quits. There is always the lack of finding product digs... But now they are sighting they are sick of buying the same characters over & over again, & being duped into buying the same character packed with one new one they want, or for Hasbro to release an improved version a few months down the road of said character. Even though I'm not bailing I know what they mean. I have far to many Cobra Commanders, & from what we have seen, still have a bunch more coming for my wallet. When Wave 8 & the 1st TRU SRO packed repaints were shown, it was a bit bewildering for many Tankers to see so many repaints...now with Wave 12 & the Hong Kong spoiler Comic Pack figs shown, I am sure people are feeling uneasy with the amount of reapints shown all at once again. Also the Tank itself has changed a lot of members, a lot of guys who were here a year ago posting regularly are not here anymore, whether they left (or were banned) I don't see those handles that were quite frequent here at one time when the line was fresh. I hate that i still feel the need to be a completest even though there are all these repaint/revisions coming out. It's also getting to be a bit to expensive so i guess i really need to be more selective in my purchases because modern era is just way to good to give up all because of repaints and price hikes.

I just hope Zap looks like the classic character and not some 'reinvented, modern' look like Destro for Resolute. I am hopeful. Airborne, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, and the troopers look very classic.

There is always the lack of finding product digs... But now they are sighting they are sick of buying the same characters over & over again, & being duped into buying the same character packed with one new one they want, or for Hasbro to release an improved version a few months down the road of said character. Seriously, I feel a LOT of Joefans should be taking a gander at how Star Wars has run since about 2002, because the same marketing principles are coming over to GI Joe and considering Hasbro's been able to make the Star Wars line a top seller even during non-peak movie years, they are obviously doing something right. Hasbro's trying to please several different markets with each release (the hardcore, the casual, the retailer, the parents AND the internal bean counters), and one very easy thing to do is to simply WAIT and see how releases line up, especially since at least the hardcore Joe fans can look at a site like Hisstank, and see a peak at new releases due. For example, I passed on the single Wild Bill, will likely pass on the comic pack with Tripwire (especially now that the CC is being repainted in another release) and I passed on the Snow Serpent. Why? Wild bill is ending up in a comic pack with scrap Iron, Tripwire is being single carded WITH a Mass element AND a more vibrant deco, and the upcoming online Extreme Conditions set has THREE Snow Serpents along with some nifty frankenjoes. Of course, that requires patience and self control, something in short supply in ANY fandom.

You will probably be able to get most of these figures MOC cheap in a few years time anyway so giving up may not be so bad of an idea.

I was collecting 1, MOSC or MISB figure/vehicle from the 25th line until Wave 9... Dammit, that wave was so freaking awesome, I started buying 1 to card, and 1 to open... it just snow-balled from there. I've never been a troop builder, but dammit, I think I've started.
Problem is, I DO feel like just WAY too much is coming out right now. I love it, but it's stressful too. I love the hunt, so store-searching is half the fun. Sure, you can buy a case, but it's just not as exciting, or fulfilling as finding them in the wild. The multiple store exclusives, and the closeness of the waves, is getting a bit out of hand. Now, I don't want less Joes really, I just want a freaking week off when something new isn't coming out. To make it worse, they're coming out every few weeks it seems, and its just impossible to find them on top of that! Super stressful, this plastic crack. |
