Hey Hey Hey, It's good ol' Johnny.
Recently, My freind caught the G.I. Joe virus and is commited to creating a replica of the original G.I. Joe rifle. (Out of wood) He asked me to ask you guys if you have any picture from the cartoon of the rifle for reference.

The CLOSEST thing to the original "Joe" rifle pictured and like the ones in the cartoon is more than likely either a M14 or a Springfield M1A (same basic thing as an M14, but in semi-auto form only - kind of like an M16 and an AR15) with the mag REMOVED from the rifle.
The pictured rifle and the "Joe" rifle are not really realistic reproductions of any "real" rifle, but again, the M14/M1A is probablly about the closest thing. (BTW, it is "M1A" and not "M1" - that is a different rilfe all together, and it's not "M1A1" either - that is a TANK ). I actually went through something similar trying to make a Joe scale M14 for Snow Job out of his rifle (the pictured "Joe" rifle we are talking about). All I did was take his rifle, cut a mag off of a M16 style rifle, glued it onto the bottom of the "Joe" rifle, and then painted the stock brown. Worked out OK, not perfect, but close enough. HTH . HTH
