I hate that Hasbro is using the same molds of characters to give us different characters. Since when were Cutter, Gung Ho, and Leather neck triplets? so are Flash, Grandslam and Grunt! Same head? different colored hats. But same face! most of the original Joe series from the 80's had different sculpts. I understand that the first few waves were the same bodies with different heads and that the Masters of the universe line was much the same. Though I understand there are some original sculpts like Gen Hawk, Spirit, Destro.......I wanted at least a close to original (esp the head and hat) of Cutter.
I don't think that the Star Wars line is different characters using old body parts and heads. We don't see a Luke head with brown hair and the package is marked han Solo. We may get re-issued parts in that like but they are of the same character. We really want original sculpts and not to be scammed like bootleggers like to do |

Flash his head was used for Hawk, Short Fuse and Steeler, and again in '87 for Starduster. Grunt's head was used for Grand Slam and Zap. I'm not even going to get started in the re-uses of Bodies. We may not like it, but Hasbro has done this since the very beginning.

I don't like the idea of Gung-Ho's head for Cutter (It was probably picked because he has a hat on) but the same head used multiple times happened in the first year (Steeler, Flash, Hawk, Short-Fuse and Star Duster are all the same head!)
To be honest, I'm all for reusing body parts, but I just want them to do it better. A little paint app in a new place on an old head will do wonders. Case in point: Here's Duke's head: Ace Head: Red Star Head: Every one of these only had paint added to the head, yet (IMO) they look almost completely different than they originally did |

People want new moulds, but they don't want to pay 'new mould' prices.
I'm happy to be getting new characters like Cutter. Even if they do need a slight stretch of the imagination they are still new, "25th" style versions of characters and so I'm happy. If the alternatives are these re-used parts or no versions at all, then I'll take the former choice.

Remember also that the line is a little over a year old and we have received well over 50 figures. (more like a hundred it seems)
As has been stated before in the 20 other threads like this... Hasbro has historically done this. They do it in Star Wars too by the way. There is considerable lead time involved in the creation of a figure. Plus the expense and time to create the mold. If hasbro had just waited to see how the line went and then re-evaluated the game plan, we would not have the bulk of the figures that have been released thus far. And it is hasbro. They are all about putting a figure out, and then putting out a more improved figure later. Yeah, it kind of sucks. But for me, the only figure I was a bit miffed on was Grand Slam since it was the exact same figure as flash just a different color. The vintage one at least had a different head... That is probably my only gripe. |
