I know that some of the ARAH figures (Storm Shadow, most notably) will yellow over time, but I received a modern era Snow Job not too long ago that was yellowed slightly. Perhaps he came from a smoker's home, IDK. But that got me to wondering about our modern figs. I don't have any white figures in the Joe line, but I have quite a few SW Stormtroopers/Clone Troopers, and I was wondering if there was a way to prevent yellowing of the white paint. I used to have a white Les Paul guitar and was told that over time, the color would yellow, but I only had it a couple of years and I know it's probably a different paint and all. I keep my figures out of sunlight and I nor anyone in my family smokes. Is it a foregone conclusion that white figures are going to turn yellow? Can you prevent it? Will the modern era figs turn yellow?

I have wondered the same thing. I got a really nice Vintage Storm Shadow the other day and he is starting to show sings of yellowing in spots, you couldn't see it in the pics on ebay which was kinda crappy but he is overall kinda nice. I don't want him to undergo anymore but I dont think I can prevent it. I have seen a lot of post about using hydrogen peroxide bath in the sun to make em white again but I dunno how that works with the red logo on him or if it will damage that in anyway I have forgoetten the details, its been some time ago that was discussed. Be interesting if anyone knows a sure fire way to prevent it (without having to encase him in solid carbonite or a poured dried acrylic block.... but I dont think you can totally stop it.

The 25th version has a yellow tint to it. Mine was fresh out the pack and it just naturally has a yellow color to it.

I'm pretty sure all you have to do is keep it out of the sun at all times. So display it in a wooden cabinet, or a UV class cabinet.
Some of the dios I made I used UV plexiglass such as the underwater dio... Search my topics to see pics.+ You can also store it in a ziploc bag. Last edited by Waspinator; 11-11-2011 at 07:12 PM.. |

Humidity will do it!
it makes no difference if you store in aziploc, in a box, etc. humidity is the number one yellower of ARAH Storm shadows. Sun and smoke will effect them over time of course. but it has been my experience that if you live in a humid climate or store your toys in a sub grade environment like a basement your going to be disappointed. this culprit will also turn vehicle plastic extremely brittle for example the fan parts on a whale or water moccasin. plastic bins are the way to go or like another tanker mentioned carbonite....

Are these SS figures ones that you have had since you were a kid? If not it could be because they were reassembled later with parts from several figures buy a seller. When I see a figure with discoloration on one leg panel and not the other next to it I always assume this. I could be wrong tho.
