Are these SS figures ones that you have had since you were a kid? If not it could be because they were reassembled later with parts from several figures buy a seller. When I see a figure with discoloration on one leg panel and not the other next to it I always assume this. I could be wrong tho.

Humidity will do it!
it makes no difference if you store in aziploc, in a box, etc. humidity is the number one yellower of ARAH Storm shadows. Sun and smoke will effect them over time of course. but it has been my experience that if you live in a humid climate or store your toys in a sub grade environment like a basement your going to be disappointed. this culprit will also turn vehicle plastic extremely brittle for example the fan parts on a whale or water moccasin. plastic bins are the way to go or like another tanker mentioned carbonite....

I'm actually moving from a place of higher humidity to one of lower humidity. Also, I try to keep my toys out of the sunlight, and I keep my stormtroopers in a plastic case, so whatever air is in there when I put on the lid is all that's there. Hopefully I won't have this problem. I don't have any white Joes, like I mentioned, but I still don't leave any of my toys in the sun.
Thanks for the links, NGC.

excessive heat can cause discoloration as well. Had this happen to some figures in my original collection as well when I lived in El Paso, TX. They were boxed and in a garage. El Paso is very hot but it is a dry heat so it wasn't humidity that did them in.
Oddly, only some figures got discolored, some were untouched, even of the same figure. Sometimes even some parts will get discolored on one figure, and different parts on another. I remember this happened and I was able to take apart a few Storm Shadows and make one or two that were pure white. Same thing for Snow Job, who yellows even more easily than SS. |
