I will admit that the gas crunch put a major damper on a dedicated pursuit of figures. I have three or four places on the way home from work that are right on the way so they don’t cause too much extra mileage. And when I am traveling the job pays for gas and the car, so far be it from me not to take advantage of the recourses provided. But to me nothing is better (in the realm of toy collecting anyway) than finding a figure that I have previously given up on. My longest hunt was over several years and several countries, it was quite the reward. Sadly I have no idea where that figure is today. Anyway thanks again for all the feed back I really appreciate everyone’s time and opinions.

I do both.
Before I was strictly a hunter, & to be honest I still hunt on my lunch breaks, occasionally after work, or on the weekends.
BUT, with wave 7, I started to feel the burn of too many empty handed trips. My brother & I both collect so we have to find 2 of every figure, (which we have had amazing luck with btw) & some troop builders for him. We are good at what we do & cover a tri-state area. But when Wave 7 started to hit, we started preordering & taking chances, if we found them at retail, we could always cancel with BBTS. And sometimes BBTS beat retail. I have not found Wave 5 comics yet, but I think it's really just the Singles you have to worry about, all the other stuff (except maybe the black Hiss & exclusives) are all fairly easy to find, & stay on shelves long enough that if your not too lazy, you'll see it. I also find that good paint apps are important to me, so I like the freedom that retail offers first with picking & choosing (when you can) to get the best of the bunch. But you do save more online (as gas is killing us all), & in the winter when the weather gets bad, & Joes are being scoffed up for Xmas, it will be nice to have that preorder secured.
So ample hunting, & online backup preorders works for me.
Unless the Hasbro promise of better distrobution improves by fall though, there will be more online buys & less hunting for me, as every brand new single figure is still a fight...

Yeah, I no longer enjoy the hunt. Used to be me and my buddy Joey would go on hunts (both Joe & Star Wars) all the time. But more times than I like we came up empty handed and I've missed out on too many figures I've wanted. I have still yet to see a werewolf jedi or fireside padme' which are not longer shipping so I'll have to resort to other means.
And not to mention recent events such as price hikes and gas prices make it harder and harder to justify the hunt.
