Why all the hub bub over the Gung-Ho with the Anchor on his hat? It would almost seem that the non-anchor hat would be the one to look for. Almost every original 5 pack Ive encountered had an anchor hat gung-ho in it with the other 4 originals.

The single carded version was the one that was rare. I think it was the first run and then they made it without the anchor.

They never go up for auction. I'd honestly count on these not being anything more than a recard. One guy was selling them on eBay for $100 each and sold like 15 or 20 of them early on.

Actually, there are legitimate single carded anchor hat Gung Ho figures. I just got one in a collection I purchased. Here's the difference to look for; the 5-pack version's anchor is painted gold while the single card version is not painted.

But honestly, the anchor hat gung ho is more common painted or not. I would think the non anchor hat would be the sought after figure. There have been plenty of figures that they change up the paint scheme but that's hardly a variant. the anchor removed from the mold would be the "variant"

Call whichever you want a variant, whichever is the rarer one is the one people will pay for.

The carded version with Anchor is the only version considered valuable. All three versions loose are worth about the same.

The point you're missing, there's more non-anchor Gung Ho figures than with the anchor. Plus, Gung Ho was never suppose to have the anchor on his hat. He's a Marine and the anchor alone is a Navy symbol.

It really boils down to what people are willing to pay for. I am simply looking for the occurance of the item tio verify if it was a legit variant issue.
