Some of you may have caught my earlier post where I was looking for smaller stands for my 25th guys. There were some great suggestions, but I still wasn't quite satisfied with the size of the stands available online.
After playing around with my display, I have come to the conclusion that my guys look so much better when displayed with no stand at all. I can fit a lot more on my shelves and they look great without all the extra space between them that comes with using their stands. However, the obvious drawback to displaying them without their stands is the lack of stability. I'm especially worried about them because I live in the San Francisco Bay area and its not uncommon for us to have the occasional earthquake (I know that stand or no stand, they would come down in the event of a big one, but we have lots of little ones as well). Anyways, I was thinking about buying some sort or epoxy / modeling-putty / rubber-cement, and just putting a dot under each figures foot. My main concern is that I do not want to damage my figures. I know some of that stuff can be really strong chemically, and I dont want it to eat away at the plastic or damage the paint, I also dont want to damage them when I eventually take them down. (I plan on moving out of my apartment one day) So my question is; has anyone ever tried this? or have any advice as to what type of substance I should or should not use? Or is this just a bad idea in general? Thanks in advance for any feedback! -Zandar Last edited by Zandar07; 04-27-2010 at 03:19 AM.. |

So you want to glue them to your shelf?
I certainly wouldn't try it. But I guess if you did do it, that stuff can be seriously strong. A little cement-glue solvent can go a long way I suppose, but, I wouldn't want to risk the possibility of it taking off the factory paint. You're dealing with some pretty powerful stuff if you want cement glue and cement debonding agents. |

Get a bunch of this then:
Removable, non-toxic, and works fairly well. |

Have you tried using Marauder John's clear stands?
Honestly, if you use anything permanent you're gonna end up regretting it down the road. Even something light like rubber cement can have long-term chemical reactions. I have art projects from 5 yrs ago where it turned acid neutral paper brown. CTGLinks also has some solutions. |

you know, i got these really strong magnets off of the internet, they are cylinders and fit into the footpegs of my joes. It hadn't occurred to me until i saw this post, but you could technically put down a sheet of tin and then put the magnets into the pegholes of your figures and they should stand up. The magnets are really strong. I would imagine you could paint the tin sheet to a color of your choice for display purposes...perhaps even flock it to make your display seem diorama-ish.

well out of all your suggestions, the safest way would be rubber cement, inwhich it will rub off and wont ruin your figures or shelf..
what you might want to do is, find out what size styrene tubing or rod fits the foot hole, and then drill holes in your shelf and glue the pegs you make in the hole of the shelf.. that way your figs can stand and have room and no stand, and can be easily removed and no damage done. a tanker here can verify what size styrene to use.. |
