Hasbro said no to the F-14 Tomcat Skystriker also because the actual figher has been retired. They said over on TNI that if they did do a Skystriker they'd rather do a F-23 http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...ger71/yf23.jpg , also known as the Storm Eagle but in a two seat configuration, which is what the Joes are using in the Resolute cartoon. They also said the YF-23 would have the same markings as the Skystriker as well.

Being familiar with diecasting/mold making, most molds cost minimum of $50,000 for the base. Then you have all the accessories that need to be made and those are smaller molds that run $25,000 and up a piece. Therefore a vehicle the size of the Skystriker could cost well over $100,000 up to $300,000.
Most vehicles they are making now are either reuses or upgraded which are not as much. They already scrapped the mauler for 2 molds breaking (one was a wheel and the other was for something else small.) Do you really think they will go ahead with a SkyStriker that needs a whole new mold? Doubt it, especially the way they prefer to repaint stuff instead. the good news is, they also stated they are prepared to make either the Flagg, Terror Drome or Defiant if any retailer picks it up. |

I had no idea that a plan wasn't in the works, because of the Tomcats retirement. No excuse IMO! Just by looking at this thread, we all want it! As far as the $100,000 to $300,000 costs, yeah, I would like some proof of that. I don't know too much about plastic molding, but that sounds a bit high.

If you look into Molds and stuff, you will see that they are indeed expensive. I have no idea what Hasbro pays, but I worked in the diecast and molding business for several years.
I once broke a mold (worked 3rd shift, fell asleep while the injection was going) they told me the 3 inch pins I broke (all 12 of them) ran $500 a piece alone. Getting new molds made of 1-2 parts were an easy $50,000. Alot of this were molds for plastics on automotives. I'm sure being in China and whatnot makes them a bit cheaper, but they can't be that much cheaper. Why else would Hasbro consistently reuse parts from figures instead of making all new figs? Because molds are expensive. I'm sure you could contact Hasbro and ask them how much a typical figure mold would cost. With that info, you can multiply it with vehicles. BTW, Hasbro is a publicly traded company and this kind of info is what investors look at before buying stock to see what kind of profit they can turn, so it shouldn't be hard to find out. |

If they went with a new jet all togther I'd rather see that jet from Stealth. That F-23 is ugly thats why they picked the F-22 also the reason they picked the F-35 instaed of the other one.

No, but I had to defend my job as I was almost fired over it. Luckily I was friends with the maintenance man who does the repair work and he played it down as not a big deal.
