I was out at my local TRU and looking for joes and only found a wave 9 torpedo so I know they were there. Anyway I went to the games section and they had 3 Wii fits so I bought one and I asked the guy how did I get so lucky with this hard to find item but not my Joes. He replied "My manager buys all the Joes when they come in that's why there are none in the isle." Is this even legal for the manager of the store to buy all the items that are new for a popular toy line such as the 25th Joes. The clerk also told me I was lucky to get a Wii fit because his manager bought 5 of the 12 they got this morning to sell on ebay. I could have bought three Wii fits but I actually want others to enjoy finding these hard to find items. I may just be to nice. I just hate scalpers and a manager at TRU who is one! What chance do any collectors in my area ever have of getting any new figures from that TRU. While I don't like to be a dick I am really thinking about calling the TRU getting the Main office number and reporting this clown. Should I just let it go? Believe me if I were the manager at a huge toy retailer I would be tempted to but this guy is just taking it to far.

Yes, it is illegal and against TRU company policy. You should get the name of the District Manager and report him. Problem is, you have only the word of an associate, who may or may not tell the district manager the same thing he told you, in fear of losing his job.

I would say NO, it's not right. You should call. I worked toy retail in my teens (TRU & Kiddie City) and sure, I'll admit I would have first pick of the action figures before they went on the shelf......but nothing like you describe. Taking a few figures here and there happens with employees all the time. I've never heard of any sales associate/store manager fess up that they're taking them right to ebay. That's pretty ballsy.

Yes ask them for the corporate phone number (They have to give this to you) and report him.

how is this different from any collector taking a job at a retail chain with the perk being first crack at everything that comes in?
we have many retail store employee's on this forum, you start calling one names, where does it stop? this will end up yet enother long thread decrying some foul against the greater good of collecting humanity, calls to burn someone at the stake, etc, etc, etc. wouldn't the prudent course of action to have been to contact the manager in question? who knows, maybe that person could turn into a key source of information and an invaluable friend to your collecting? this is all just a guess, you could just as easily start making phone calls to various person complaining to whom ever will listen that a sales person in electronics told you the manager is a joe fan and buying everythign before you can...for shame.

Is it really taking it to far? If you collected joes AND were the manager, wouldnt you be buying them all for yourself and friends?
Im sure all of us would. This guy is just capitalizing on the fact that we are impatient and have to have everything NOW. Alot of us dont care at what price. We feed this kind of behavior. If anything dont hate on him, hate on those in the collectors community that buy off people like that. they feed the behavior. I hate scalpers, but we all like the idea of making money and with times being what they are, we have to take what ever measures to make some money. Oh and there is no "corporate number". Its a customer service number that has NOTHING to do with TRU directly. They just handle complaints. Its the same at Target. If it bothers you that much though, call up his boss. ask for the district manager. |
