They limit customers on some items when they are selling out like the Wii to one per customers. I went in one time and they were giving out #'s to people who came in looking for them, why should the manager be any diffrent and breaking their own rules that they set! Report Him!!

Personally, I see no reason why you should hold back. If the manager is picking up everything to resell on eBay, why not at least have higher ups at TRU investigate this? I don't know if it's legal or not, but it's not good business practice and I doubt his bosses would be impressed. It's not fair for others as the manager could get all the items before they even go on the shelf.

If its anything like other retail stores then it is ethical to buy them....if it is for himself. But to buy for others or to sell, or for hording reasons, that is unethical and rediculous and he should be fired. I am hearing a lot of this "thats why i got a job at the toy store" , well right on then. Buy YOUR joes or whatever, and call your friends. if they get there and get em, thats cool, if not, well at least they had an advantage that most don't.

Good points on both sides of the argument. However, there isn't much you can do if you report him. They'll slap the guy on the wrist but I'm sure he'll keep doing it.
Your best bet would be to talk to the guy and make friends with him. Explain that you're a collector too and that you're trying to find the new stuff. If he isn't a dick, you have the possible chance of having an 'in' at your local TRU. Wouldn't hurt to try, right? |

how is this different from any collector taking a job at a retail chain with the perk being first crack at everything that comes in?
we have many retail store employee's on this forum, you start calling one names, where does it stop? this will end up yet enother long thread decrying some foul against the greater good of collecting humanity, calls to burn someone at the stake, etc, etc, etc. wouldn't the prudent course of action to have been to contact the manager in question? who knows, maybe that person could turn into a key source of information and an invaluable friend to your collecting? this is all just a guess, you could just as easily start making phone calls to various person complaining to whom ever will listen that a sales person in electronics told you the manager is a joe fan and buying everythign before you can...for shame. |

It's one thing when an employee is buying for his collection, or to help friends. But when you are buying 5 Wii fits to put on ebay, that is not helping out your collection, or your friends. That is the same as insider trading on Wall Street. No different. Using inside information to gain profit.
And no corporate number...that is why you call the District Manager. They have to give you his number as well.

Good for him. Bad for you. That's just how the ball rolls. I have absolutely no problem with it. I hope he got an employee discount too.
I get $50 off my DirecTV bill and you don't. I work for DirecTV. Every job has it's perks. Cops get off on speeding tickets all the time and I didn't. My bartender drinks for free. My friend can walk into Fenway Park any time he wants because he works for the team. When I worked at an apartment complex we got 50% off on our rent and everyone else didn't. Every NFL player gets two tickets to the Super Bowl every year regardless of whether they are playing. My friend gets reimbursed on ALL of his gas purchases. Should I keep going? Because there are probably some better perks out there that I'm missing. I don't care if it is against company policy either. As far as I am concerned, Toys R Us sells a product, their only obligation is to make sure it gets sold. Why should they care who is buying it? And for the record, I say the same thing about every single store out there regardless of who the buyer is (IE: in the case of Target, limiting people). If I were the "higher ups" at TRU and someone reported this guy, I'd give him a raise and send him even more GI Joe product...
