well hunter seems we can finally agree on something. I do agree that if given more space the line would make even more money, maybe then propmting hasbro to reconsider its "hiatus" of the modern line. You've given me a new insight as to how to approach this problem. thanks. :> Now its gonna be writing to big retailers across the board about increasing the space for joes. Think THATS a worthwhile effort? :>
And since you've decided to approach this problem from a new light, I'll offer my services in the Exclusive department. I have no problems finding them in the 8+ stores within 20 minutes of me. Quote:
well you have your opinion and i have mine but opinions are like asswholes and everyone's got one so we all cant agree on everything. we are all gi joe fans and that is what it comes down to at the end of it all. but i was just sayin i prefer rah and im sticking up for it because in my opinion it is and will alweys be the best gijoe line ever made.

Ban...Boycott...Same thing. Whatev.
And how can they not suck? Who really wants a figure of Channing Tatum?...In all seriousness though. Ya'll jump the gun before reading things through all the way, and it's HI-larious. I'm not bothering with multiquotes here, but someone was saying something along the lines of why rehash a line from over 20 years ago. Well, it's obvious it's selling, whether it be adult collectors, parents who are buying stuff for their kids, or kids who just think ninjas and dudes with guns are cooler than Ben10, Star Wars, Comic book characters, or ninja turtles...And MUCH better than Prince Caspian figures. Regardless of WHICH line becomes prominent, Movie, Modern, or Sigma 12.34.09, There's always going to be a JOE line. It's just fact that Modern is a seller, and a line that's more recognizable than a movie where everyone looks like Matrix rejects. Hey wait a sec....FINISH READING THIS TIME... I'm sure the movie line will have variant outfits of the JOEs in other uniforms, like the outfits that have the more recognised "Character Colors" that the movie folks have been hinting at. And that's where the non movie characters in the "movie update" schpeel comes into play. We'll probably get a Jinx, Law, Leatherhead...Will Jinx be red? Doubtfull...Leatherhead won't have that hat of his...but it'll be the characters. And it'll be in the 25th style. That's what's important right? The movie? It's gonna suck. A handfull of no-name or little known actors, and Dennis Quaid (Nothing against HIM, I like his movies...Innerspace was SO COOL!) Is it gonna make a ton of money? I bet it will. So be it and HOORAY FOR HASBRO. Put that money into better quality toys. Expand the line. The movie figures will suck because it WILL NOT be Duke, Heavy Duty, Ripcord....It's gonna be blackshirts. ...The vehicles should kick some booty though. Of course, that's just my 2 cents. ...Ya'll can stop reading now ;) |

lets just PRay the JG Levitt CC DOESN'T have a removeable mask. He was in that movie Stop Lost WITH our new Duke, Channing Tatum, and lemme tell ya I aint no mr universe, but damn that dude (JG LEvitt) is fuuuuuugggly. I can see why he took a role that had a mask LOL :> Another Ironic twist...both tatum and levitt were in an anti-war movie now both are in a pro-war movie. just kinda funny when ya stop and think about it. :>

nope, not selective, just saying what they said at the con in talking with them. It's a totally different situation now than it was last year. There wasn't a movie / reboot riding on them at that time.
I never said anything about them not sticking with a reboot if the movie tanks. That hasn't ever been discussed. So, I don't really understand your contention with something I didn't say. I'm just stating what they said at the con. In that same vein, has it been confirmed that the cartoon / movie / and comic are going to have absolutely nothing to do with each other? As to sticking with a reboot--I was stating one example where Hasbro might change their mind--Regardless of what you heard at the Con as a means of questioning your conclusions which to me seemed overly definitive. Quote:
I tend to trust what they say more so than speculating faceless people on the interwebs. Maybe if you actually made it to the convention, you'd have a little bit more insight. Then maybe you would see the actual confidence they have in both the future of the line and the movie. Not some tow the company line bs "we like it because we work for them", but a genuine feeling of excitement. Not trying to knock you, but it gets a little frustrating to spend time giving info from the con, easily found on other boards, to people here, only to have them argue with you or ignore it entirely. I'm trying to give insight into why Hasbro is doing what they're doing. That's all. You can argue with me about it, but I'm simply conveying what Hasbro said will be happening.
What people were talking about is giving them feedback asking for them to consider continuing to provide product that customers have a high level of interest in. I'm not sure why THAT suggestion or action is bothersome to you or anyone else. Lastly, I can't speak for others, but my speculation has nothing to do with telling Hasbro what I prefer. It seems to me that you see things as very set, and I'm not sure that is the case, because things change and have changed--with one of the factors (if not THE factor) being customer reaction (which equates to sales). All it got to say is the day the Transformers movie toys came out so did Robot Heroes with G1 characters,Optimash Potatoe head and a g1 optimus prime that transformed from truck to a gun. Also Walmart had an exclusive Robot Heroes pack with G1 characters. Also Masterpiece Starscream was sold during the height of the movie toys. So saying the classic and movie line can't coexist is bull.

Other merchandise separate (Potato Head, Role Play, Combat Heroes, Sleeping Bags, underoos, etc) have nothing to do with the main line's continuity, story, look, etc. Masterpiece Star Scream was a collectors item and walmart exclusive, just like the classic joes will be during the movie lines' run.

And I do see things being very set for their movie gameplan. I agree with you that consumers can change things with their reaction and feedback, which is why the 25th line continued as it did. But Hasbro has very specific goals in mind for the movie and its execution of launching the brand anew. Like others have said, I would love to see the two lines run concurrently, but due to their specific goals for the brand, it most likely will not happen.

Aren't the Hall of Heroes figures supposed to run along side the Movie Line?
I don't know how old everyone is...but does ANYONE remember that the line already went through a haitus? Yet here it is again, bigger & better than ever. If anything, look at the positives: No joes - more money in your pocket. No joes through Summer 09 - you can spend your money on "Real life!" ZOMG! |
