I'll say it again, HASBRO HAS A LOT RIDING ON THIS MOVIE, MOVIE LINE OF FIGURES AND NEW CARTOON! We need to helps support them the best we can. So by trying to keeping Hasbro from making money will definitely insure we don't see many new Joes in the futue.

its not that we want a ban on movie merch(though i for one would support such an action) its just we don;t want our current line of joes (the modern classics) to go away or only be exclusives. Why is it that you cannot support that? Why should only movie stuff be available to us when we SHOULD have both the lines for collectors (the modern Classics) AND the new line to bring in the newer fans. I personally don't see that as a problem and like i have said before, if infact the regular line were to contiue NORMALLY beside the movie line, not in the spirt of the modern line, not in just exclusives but NORMAL run of the mill production like we see today then more collectors MIGHT be inclined to be behind the movie and its merch. At least thats how i feel about it. :>

The Logical thing to do would be: A) Please your core fans--accomplished by staying true to the original. B) Appeal to the broader group of potential fans--by making a good quality movie (TV Show, etc). If you lead with step A, and follow with Step B everyone is happy. If you do step B, while Ignoring Step A, you alienate very vocal fans.
Now, I have no idea what the GI Joe Movie will be, but early rumors of some international group (which I hope are/were false) certainly didn't please this fan (step a), and honestly--I had doubts about step b as well (and still do)--we shall see.
The point--If Hasbro had a lot riding on it, perhaps they should have gone with what works, and IS working great right now--the Classic RAH. Perhaps the movie is very true to that, which would be a win-win-win.
I'm skeptical in general, because more often than not adaptations have been horribly mangled bastardizations of properties fans have loved for years, because some Hollywood hotshot with more funding than talent decides he's going to put his mark on something.

When the movie comes out I will be done buying new GIJOE toys. I will continue to buy vintage Joes off ebay and 25th bad guys for army building. I'll be spending a crap load of money until then. Hopefully Hasbro will step it up and give us some more classic characters before the 25th line comes to an end...

Never said I was going to ban the line. In fact, I plan on buying it en'masse. I was just proving a point that too many people are going off the handle on this. WITHOUT READING THINGS CLEARLY. (true dat?)
Yeah, I firmly believe the movie will suck. Terrible actors. I'm still gonna see it opening night. The figures may suck too...but we've been using Indy Jones and Star Wars as custom fodder as well.
I agree with Deckard on this. WHY should we be stuck with toys we don't WANT when Hasblow knows darn well what we DO want, and what's been funding their exec's vacation fund lately?
Hasbro is worried about inter-company competetition? Shelf Space? Tell them to recall the HALF AISLE of S#it box SW crap that sits in the aisles of any given TRU. BRING ON BOTH LINES! I'll buy em' all and hope the exec's send me a friggan postcard from Tahiti. But don't LIMIT me to what I can buy when they KNOW what WILL sell.

But do you know that movie figures won't sell? How do you know this? Have you seen them?

Aren't they making some toys to go along with the new comics and cartoon? Sure, the main push will be toys that support the movie but I have a feeling we will like the comics and cartoon better than the movie.

"Ban" movie figures? That's a new one.
Nobody here can 'ban' them, as that means denying others the figures. The most you can do is boycott them (which suggests to me not even getting the ones you may like - Definately a "cutting off your nose to spite your face" act!).
If Hasbro were switching to Indiana Jones style rubbish I could see the problem, but as long as they use the 25th style I don't see how movie figures do anything but good for the success of all future Joe lines.

I don't know why there is so much debate about this thread. It's simple. The people who love the modern/25th figs(classic style, not movie style)want the line to continue without interruptions, exclusives or scarce one classic figure per box(with 20 movie figures).
Saying that they can't have the line continue next to the movie is bullsh!t. But they can have Transformers animated with the Universe line. They can have Star Wars Tranformers right next to the regular Star Wars figures.
Like I said before ,I love Hasbro but sometimes they screw up.

Well, not quite bullshit. And really that's your opinion. Which is fine . . . but . . .
Fact is (all of this was talked about by Hasbro at the Con, so it is fact), Hasbro is trying to solidify the GI Joe brand. They understand that Transformers has multiple universes, multiple scales, all within the same line. That's what TF fans are used to. GI Joe, however, is different. GI Joe fans have never had different "universes" running at the same time. Therefore, when the movie comes out, they are going to focus on solidifying the GI Joe brand . . . which means that the movie will be the world in which the GI Joe universe will now take place. Because of this, they are going to keep the figures, vehicles, etc, in the movie "frame." so to speak. Now, after the movie, they might run a classics line, or some such thing, but for all intents and purposes, the focus will be on the Movie GI Joe verse.
It's not that there is debate. It's a discussion between people who have hopes and wishes of what they want to happen, and those who are a little bit more informed and know what will happen. Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing the classic figures continue (and they will, in exclusive form) in their own separate line, but that isn't what is going to happen. It might be for the better too. Kids who will be getting into the brand will have their very own GI Joe world that they (along with everyone else) will be discovering and making their own. It's like when we were kids. (I know, not JUST like when we were kids, but that's splitting hairs)
After the movie, Hasbro could explore options like a classics tribute line in order to get more classic figures out.
You guys can jump up and down and scream until you're blue in the face, but you're either not listening to those of us who know what's going to happen, who were at the Con, and who talked to the Hasbro team, or you're too enchanted with your own opinions that you can't see beyond them. Hasbro knows what they're doing with this. Much better than you think they do, or you think you do. Their team has gone from a handful of people to a large, well organized team of passionate industry professionals who are huge GI Joe fans.
I don't expect anyone who "loves the modern/25th figs who want the line to continue w/out interruptions" to understand any of this, as you haven't up to this point. We're telling you what is going to happen and the reasons for it. If you choose not to listen and ignore what is being said, fine. You can write a petition, fine. The thing is, it's going to change nothing. You'll get your classic figures up until spring. Then you'll get some exclusive during the movie line. Then you'll have a to wait a bit before you'll get more . This is due to the solidifying/unifying of the brand. It's . . . simple ; )
I'm in no way trying to be a jerk, just conveying what will be happening to GI Joe and the reasons for it. All of this was discussed at JoeCon.
