They did the same thing last year when they had the Classics out for Transformers.. The classics went on "HIATUS" until the movie was done selling which is about now and they brought back the Classics line under the Universe name... They will most likely do the same for G.I. Joe but it will be about a year so bank on from June 2009-June 2010 it will be movie line stuff.... Well at least the wallet will get a break..
Oh and like others said they might throw in some store exclusives as well but I don't see much of the old line making an apperance while their trying to maximize sales on the movie items!!!!

Hello Everyone,
There is another aspect to this--the new IDW comic series. Now, based on what little I've heard, I'm guessing that it will resemble the movie in appearance. That being said--the movie will come and go, and even if there is a sequel, it will be several years away. What will be out on a continuing basis however is the comic, and that might provide a tie-in with the toys moving forward. As most people have probably read, the IDW comic is a reboot, which means it need not have any connection to the classics. That has its good and bad points. So, the movie line may "end" but the line may shift to comics instead of back to Classic RAH. That MIGHT be a good compromise in some ways. I'm hoping that the comics are more tilted towards the old comics in style than the movie look, which would tend to make toys more similar to the RAH 25th. Naturally, this is all speculation. If I could have Hasbro make me figures in the way I wanted--I would go with Comic-Series Classics running from the 1982 RAH series into the 2001-2008 Image/DDP series, but eventually they will run out of variations to make, so the future I am guessing will be with something ongoing and new. hopefully this is not the case, just because the comic is doing a reboot, larry hama said he was doing it his way this time. hopefully the comic will not resemble the movie at all. i am not interested in reading a comic book about soldiers running around in POWER SUITS.
you are also not taking into account the upcoming gi joe cartoon series that will be based, from my understanding loosely on the 80's style joes so this could play into the future of the line as well |

Well after the movie WW is not really what I am concerned about. Most likely(again this is speculation) they will bring the modern classics back, but I do not wish to wait a year or two for that to happen. I have been tremendously stoked at the joes returning and despite my numerous complaints about the re-use of parts etc etc, i am ecstatic the something that held such a dear place in my heart is being brought back to its former glory only better, much like the TF classics did for transformers. However, unlike TF classics, i do not want to have to wait almost 2 frackin' years to see new joes from the modern classics. I know of many a people, both on here and out in the world, who both do and do not support the movie and its merch, who do not want the modern line going on hiatus, canceld, put on hold etc etc either. So I think that the smart money would be to just have both lines continue in full force, not in exclusives to stores ( a scalpers soggy dream) and not in on-line only stuff but in general mass market releases. I know what hasbro SAID they were doing and mosy likely nothing will change their tactics but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't make our voices heard if we as the consumer of said products don't feel the practices are what we would like them to be.

THAT being a basis for more toys would be fine with me, however, it is adding up to an hour of material. If they plan on going forward after that, great, if not...then I doubt much would be based on it. KAM |

I thought about this, sure the 25th line will stop for a time, but after the fanfare of the movie dies down, GI Joe will command a larger section like transformers and star wars does now.
Look at the transformers now you have many different types to choose from the movie, classics, mini, and animated ones |

Deckard, it's just not going to be feasible for Hasbro to continue with two Joe lines. They are going to cash in on the movie and make the most of it. It's a simple fact. Now if everyone would just realize this and prepare yourself for it. You might find you like some of the movie figures and/or vehicles. If not, you'll see new stuff in a year (not two).

Here's a thought...Why not as a collective, BAN the movie figures. Hasbro may wake up and see "Gosh, the Mod/25th's were selling SO well, but the movie figs aren't. Let's get some money back, fellow Hasbro people...Full speed ahead with the Modern Line!" Wishfull thinking, but that's really the only way we can guarentee a continuation. On the other hand, if no one buys the movie toys, they may kill the entire line dead to rights. It's a toss up. Me? I'm not holding high hopes for the movie to be what it SHOULD be, but as long as the toys look comparable to the 25th, I'll buy em'...Black uniforms make for good Shadow CGs ;) or other special units. Hasbro aren't as big of morons as we all think and say they are. As long as sales are up, they'll give us our 25ths...just not as quickly as 8 a month. If it's a dozen a year, I'll be happy....So will my wallet. |
