But only while the movie line was selling. Now they're not, TF Animated has taken over which is utterly different. In fact, we have the character "Prowl" appearing in the Classics 2 and TF Animated lines, yet both are utterly different in concept & execution (couldn't really be more different, actually). Why is it so unlikely that GI JOE will adopt a similar strategy post movie?

But as I said earlier, the Transformers movie pretty much showed us that this isn't how Hasbro works. The movie toys ran their course and then Classics II came back, despite some TF fans insisting they would be 'dead' in the wake of "movie crap" when the original Classics 'hiatus' was announced.
Even if the Joe movie is the best thing to hit the franchise, EVER, the toys have a natural built in shelf life due to the nature of the market and the customers who buy them. After their time has passed, GI JOE will almost cetainly revert to what they know will sell to 'collectors', ie: "Modern Era" figures.

Yes it did happen. We saw classic characters, like arcee, swindle, cliffjumper and others given the movie treatment. So there is the more than likely scenario that we will see the same thing happen to the joe line. Charcaters who were never in the film(whether they were intended to be or not) show up in movie-ized versions. And must we really resort to personal attacks WW?

That is not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the line AFTER the movie. We already know that Hasbro is going to mix in some classic characters into the movie line. But afterwards I seriously doubt the movie line will dictate the look of the future lines to come.
However What I think Deckard is on about is that we don't want the classics line on hold. Even during the movie line run. I'd have to agree with him. Even if the Movie is a hit, and the Movie toys are a scusses, some of us won't like it, and what we do like we want to stay on the shelves. |

They did the same thing last year when they had the Classics out for Transformers.. The classics went on "HIATUS" until the movie was done selling which is about now and they brought back the Classics line under the Universe name... They will most likely do the same for G.I. Joe but it will be about a year so bank on from June 2009-June 2010 it will be movie line stuff.... Well at least the wallet will get a break..
Oh and like others said they might throw in some store exclusives as well but I don't see much of the old line making an apperance while their trying to maximize sales on the movie items!!!! |
