well i hope that you are right Crim. I hope i am wrong and the modern line wont disappearfor a year or two. But given hasbro's penchant for focusing soley on movie related products despite current line success in the last few years i don't remain too hopeful. Again like i said i don;t care if the packaging is altered, i just don't want to see movie-ized version of classic characters, aside from the ones that will be in the film.

Well, all the statements I have read about the Gi joe 25th line In 2009 are ambiguous at best and really doesn't say what hasbro's plans are for characters based on the 80's style look. I don't think it is unreasonable for those that wish to send Hasbro a letter saying "hi I'd like to see both lines in 2009" to do so, however to suggest that some are retarded for wanting doing so, as the title change suggest, is unreasonable.

First off, the line is continuing into 2009, probably up to about May or June. So for probably a good 5 to 6 months we will continue to get "25th style" product. Then the movie stuff kicks in. Hasbro has stated that some "old school" stuff would be mixed in with the movie line stuff.
Also we have a cartoon coming that is very reminiscent of the old one and I'm sure figures will be coming out related to that in the "25th style". Hasbro has said, the "25th style" is what they will be going with for the foreseeable future. I think you guys are totally jumping the gun right now. Until official word is said or seen, there is no reason to say the "sky is falling". Last edited by WildWeasel; 07-14-2008 at 07:41 PM.. |

if the line continues unabated then hey i will happily admit i was wrong. However many of us are going based off of how we have seen past lines treated thus THAT is what we are basing this off of. Currently, star wars is getting styled in that clones wars style of animation. The "normal" looking figures are being swept away until after the clone wars stuff. Many people don;t want to see what happened to transformers happen to this line as well. And again to the mod who made the title change PLEASE Return the title to its original . Thank you.

Don't you think that's kinda stretching it?
The last thing I want is an over-stretched and over-saturated market of Joes. If we make it to the figures from '90 or '91 then I would be satisfied. Just think about what happened in the early to mid 90s when the line lost a lot of its patrons who eventually grew up to like other stuff (like girls), and then the characters became too loud and out of touch. Do you want a million different Cobra Commanders or Snake Eyes? Quote:
it because hasbro doesn't care about us. even though we make a good 40-50% of their market(yes im pretty sure we do) they just care about milking franchises for what they are worth to the generation of kids who grow up on fad trends(like power rangers, pokemon etc...) and then move on to the next popular thing.

well CG its a different time now. More adults are collecting these things than children. At least thats something that i have noticed. When i see kids buying things its stuff like power rangers or animated tf's or pokemon or those justice league things. I don't see very many kids buying GI Joes.

Alright, but as was stated at the con, and as I've said before (but don't expect anyone to listen) the movie line is going to be updated (movie) looks for the classic figures. I mean, I'm not reporting this for the first time. This is what was stated by Hasbro at the convention. The classic uniforms or whatever you want to call them will be in the form of exclusives. This is not my opinion, or my take on someone else's opinion. This is what Hasbro said is happening. Since this is exactly what you don't want, then I guess you won't be happy for a few months.
Hell, I welcome the change to the line. Although I like my classic Joes, the whole fun in them when we were little were the new styles and designs that Hasbro came up with.

I just think that you're taking things a bit too seriously to say that Hasbro doesn't care about us and that the sky is falling just because a movie is coming out. For me, it's about time they made a movie about GI Joe because I'm going to watch it just like I did when Transformers came out. In fact, when I first saw Transformers come out, I heard a lot of applause from the countless 20-30 year old crowd of fans. Even if the TF didn't look exactly the same, being there gave those fans a piece of their childhood so they could relive it again. Bottomline, Hasbro isn't as dumb as you think. They're not going to stop unless, there's not a lot interesting things to do anymore or if collectors aren't buying as much as they used to. I'm not saying that I'm going to buy the movie line. But I'm definitely looking forward to the movie.

well one of the big problems with"exclusives" is poor distribution and Scalpers hoarding them all. Remember the fiasco's with the target vehicles. They were almost NIGH to be seen in my area. It would be simpler to just keep both lines OPEN to give us the CHOICE as to which line we'd like to buy. IF infact they were to keep both lines open more regular collectors may be more inclined to buy movie stuff as opposed to only giving us the option of mass movie lines and "exclusives".

well also theres this talk of making the classics line "Exclusive" to stores or online retailers. If that comes to pass, say for instance they're made exclusive to wal-mart or target..then we as the average collector will have to resort to dealing with hoarding scalpers. If its online only, As with DTC line which i never bought any of, then many others who don't order online will be given the middle finger. i just feel that the simplest and fairest solution is just to keep both lines going steady. Again my opinion and i know some won't share it.
