I never saw VvV warming pegs here, and I live in a pretty big area, full of toy terrorists and collectors, and kids who love Joe. Joes are the hot thing right now, especially with a movie coming out. I am pretty sure there a tons of people who have connections, or maybe working at Target/TRU/WALMART, who are just buying cases unopened, or just clearing the whole place out. There's members here who claim to have cleaned places out many times. So I am pretty sure once they get them in, they are already gone. Especially when you got people who go every day or every other day, looking for stuff. The whole supply and demand bit you got from that Manager would have been believable, but why would they raise their prices on these items if they already knew they were in short supply? And why haven't they done this with Star Wars, I've seen the same freaking set of figures on the shelves for over a year now at a few of the Targets in my area, not to mention the 20 Buzzers that sit on one of their pegs. And if it is true, why would Hasbro have told a manager of a Target? "Shhh! Don't tell anyone, but we are going to milk the joe train for whatever we can!". The only thing I can think of on this end is the failings of the DTC line, and Sigma Six, not to mention the canceled Robot Rebellion line. I am pretty sure there are still some sore feelings from Hasbro when it comes to the Joe line due to what happened with that whole mess. But, that's only my opinion. Personally, I think the manager did not have an answer to your question, so they made some wacky stuff up on the spot. |

Oddly enough it makes sense to me. Seeing the popularity of the line, Hasbro sees an opportunity in making smaller releases. Why would they release 8 joes per box instead of the 12 they release for SW. The more the availability, the less the demand. The less the availability, the more the demand. Like G.I. Eddie said, we want what we can't have. And it would explain the slow reissueing of prior figures in the earlier waves. I guess if I want most or all of a wave, I am going to keep to purchasing the case on-line.

and how do you keep the demand up? reduces supply to make sure people are afraid not to buy every figure they find out of fear they may never find them again. if the pegs were always full, and we knew we could go to the store any day we wanted and grab a figure, we wouldn't buy the entire case or cases that are put out all at once, so Hasbro's sales would lower, not increase with more product. they are feeding the hysteria, and we buy into it, to keep the sales high.

I'm sure Hasbro wants to be a little cautious with this line - no need to oversaturate before the movie comes out. But I wouldn't read this as a malicious act. Even so, for a non-movie line, there's still been a steady, if not overwhelming, arrival of figures compared to some other lines I've seen at Wal-Mart and Target. We've also seen a lot of new figures come out in just a year or so. And these are very popular, of course.

so you are claiming that because your Target has not gotten any in, no Target has, so not Joes havee been sold at all anywhere? that's an awfully flawed argument.

it's interesting to me that Hasbro keeps saying that they are going to porduce more to meet demand at every Q&A, yet ALMOST everyone contiues to complain that they see neverending empty pegs...

Ummm... that makes no sense. All retailers have corporate "buyers". You know, those people who go to the Toy Fair(s) and decide what products they will or will not carry? Those people who work with Hasbro to figure out what exclusives they do or do not want?
The retailers are Hasbro's customers. They absolutely dictate how much product they want. I worked in retail management for 15 years and the notion that Hasbro can just sit back and whimsically dictate what stores get what product isn't just incorrect, it's ridiculous and laughable. Target has a team of hundreds of corporate level buyers and store planners, and those folks are the ones that dictate what stores get what product. Now, it's possible that Hasbro is having trouble filling all of their demand (because the line continues to far outsell expectations, which is a good thing, let me remind you) but Hasbro absolutely does NOT dictate what stores get what on their own whim. Justin Agreed. He is Correct!! Mr. Savage |

I work for Wally-mart. We always have joes on order. As they are sold the system orders more automatically. We get trucks from a main distribution warehouse that sends to hundreds of stores in the region. Whatever product (such as Joe figs) are sent to stores from there with certain stores getting more than others. It is usually based on how big the store is and how much sales they do. I know that stores in my regional area are just not getting enough supply to meet demand, and that is not the retailers fault it is the supplier.
